My son contacts me about 9:00 Sunday night and informs me that he will be demolishing a house Monday morning and what do you think is growing up against the house ? Your right so I sprung into action grabbed my shovel and headed out to save this tree from destruction , well digging it out in the dark and getting it home only to find out that I ran out of potting soil so off we go to the Depot for a emergency potting soil run, well after all is said and done and now 12:00 at night I have 4 new fig trees to my collection 6 1/2 ft tall trees and made about 25 cuttings I removed most of the leaves off the tall trees to lessen the stress the few leaves that I left on appear to be doing good, man what us fig nuts won't do to save a fig tree I know that you can't tell what variety it is without a ripe fig but looking at the leaves whats your guess???  I almost forgot the wood on the tree is brown ......

Dave, are you in New London county?
A couple of weeks ago, I bought two plants from
a local nursery, near Waterford. They were labeled
-Everybody say it together-
BROWN TURKEY!

They were selling them real cheap, and I was curious
about the leaf shape.

They look pretty similar to yours.

Do you know if the fig is dark?
I assume mine are dark, to be labeled Brown Turkey,
but the figlets are different from my other 15-20 varieties
that have attempted to fruit. These figs have a distinctive
thick neck.

Fantastic work Dave, it looks like you got a couple of different kinds of trees. Did you? I'm very interested to find out what the one is with the long spidery leaves.

Dave, there's no way to know for sure without seeing the fruit what variety it is.  But if I had one guess I would say Brunswick since it is probably the most common variety with leaves like that growing in people's yards around here.

Wow! Total fig devotion! I want to be like you. Can't wait to see what comes from the tree.

Great job, Dave!  I hope you're rewarded kindly.  Heck, they'd probably sell for at least $30 a tree if you tried!

 I bought a Brown Turkey from them maybe 5 years ago. Leaves don't look anything like yours though.

Herman's seem to be a little different, 5 instead of 7.

Dave you raised your son right.  It always makes me happy to hear about a fig rescue.  I hope they all do well for you.   Those leaves are sooo pretty,  I'd grow it as an ornamental even if it didnt make figs.

Gorgi They do look very similar, does the LBH have brown wood?

I am not sure what you mean; doesn't all fig twigs start green, then brown and finally gray?

Exceptions I know of:
Panache twigs start variegated.
Norman's Yellow wood tends to have a yellowish color hint.

Were the trees in question, sun scorched b/c of the mentioned winter-protection late-uncovering?

Here's a picture of the cuttings the roots are growing faster on the top than on the bottom?

You may be using too much water.

That seems to save alot of space with cuttings Dave. I might try that.
