I have a plant of the tree that The_Montreal_Fig  found in his neighborhood and posted about here http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3490522&highlight=vine.  It was believed to be a green fig from Greece.  It is bearing here for the first time, and the figs are coloring early.  Of the bearing figs I've got, only a few have done this: Violette de Bordeaux, Petite Negri, Vista Mission and Ficus psuedocarica.  But the leaves are much different than these figs - it doesn't appear to match any of them.  Does any one have a fig that has fairly simple leaves, red terminal buds, and early coloring figs that might be a match for this one?

I also have this fig and it is supposed to be a white fig but I too noticed pink terminal buds on my tree earlier this year wich is not usually common on white figs. Unfortunately I did not get any figs on my plant this season.

The_Montreal_Fig got his information about this fig from the person who had it.  It was supposed to be a white fig - and it may have been.  From the picture it was on a porch - in Canada.  The intensity of light hitting the figs would have been very low.

I have a fig, Caserta, that was supposed to be a white fig.  It was.




The next year I got a big surprise.

Fignut....if you have a list for scion wishes, please consider adding me to it for this particular fig.  I don't have a lot to offer by way of trade yet, will depend on how my season ends.  Odds are you have everything I have. But that fig is quite interesting, and looks great.

I am late in the game but I glad to hear that things have been going on with the ''vine fig''. I am guessing I should update the info on this fig since it looks like it is not white. I guess you are right that it was kept on a porch in a shaded area.

I am glad to see that even if I am far away in Europe this fig is still living on!

I got my first ripe Fig Vine fig on October 7.  It was .9 oz (26 grams) and 1 5/8 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide.  As it was ripening, I thought it might be another Aldo/Corleone/Weeping Fig. The leaves are very similar, but the taste is completely different.  Where A/C/WF has a mild sweet taste, the flavor of this fig was much more intense and fruity.

This fig has been very consistent producer for me both brebas and main crop.  Also looks to be cold tolerant and mid ripening so it may grow fine in ground in Niagara.

This year it really showed some impressive size breba figs. 80 grams, 2 1/2" by 2 3/4"

 

How'd it get the name? I'd be curious to see the whole plant.
