Fig Visitor - Black Swallowtail

I saw this visitor today on fig tree and my daughter took her camera and captured this picture of it a Black Swallowtail .

Thanks for posting this pretty picture of the butterfly with a tiny baby face at the tail end of the centre line.

You probably have dill, parsely or rue in a garden nearby as the caterpillars feed on those plants. I had about a dozen caterpllars earlier this year and they ate those plants up. When they pupate, I put a couple in a container so we can see when they transform and then release them. My son loves that stuff!   

We usually let the Southern Swallowtails annihilate our fennel.  They loooove it.  The end result is totally worth it.  I'm really wanting to seed off some milkweed to try and get more Monarchs in the area.

A friend of mine has been growing Milkweed for years and has a large group of Monarchs every year. There pupae actually have little spots of gold areas on them, emerald and gold very cool.

Swallowtails, buckeyes and monarchs are among my favorites
