Thanks for sharing. That is a female wasp. The matter of fact, all wasps that you see flying outside are female. Thanks.

Polly - as in "Go Polly-nate my figs" Don't get too attached to your pet, Aaron, she will likely go pollinate someone elses figs too.

Thanks for sharing Aaron! How often do you see them in Los Angeles? Are they easy to spot? I'm down in Oceanside and I have been keeping an eye on some wild caprifig trees in the San Luis river bed and I have seen very very few wasps. I think I might have showed up a little too late and they already left the caprifigs. I guess the amount of wasps in the North San Diego depends on whether or not my san pedro varieties get pollinated...I'll find out at the end of summer...fingers crossed...

@donpaid, they are pretty much everywhere... after a while your eyes see them everywhere and , no, it's not an illusion. :)
