Fig Wasps in Texas??

Does anyone know if there are Fig wasps in texas? More specifically south texas around San Antonio. I called all of the local nurseries and they had no idea what they even were. They did say that everyone has success with figs here so they think that there may be fig wasps here.

I don't know first hand about San Antonio, but I believe only parts of California has the fig wasp in the US, but the good news is that the large majority of fig varieties do not need pollination by the fig wasp. There is a type of fig called "common" that doesn't require the wasp for pollination. That and San Pedro types are what you're looking for. San Pedro types will produce a breba, but the main crop will need to be pollinated. These make up the large majority of varieties you'll find talked about on this forum.

There are also Smyrna types that do require the wasp, and shouldn't produce figs for you in San Antonio.

There are plenty of great figs that do not need the wasp.

Is there currently a list of figs that do not require wasps? I looked on the treesofjoy website but it does not specify.

Assume those are all common figs that don't need pollination. That's the situation with most nurseries even in CA. They'll tell you if there are varieties that do need the wasp.

I live in deep South Texas (Port Isabel-South Padre Island) and there is no wasp here. My collection consists of common figs and a few san pedro type cultivars that produce excellent breba figs.

You guys are soo great. Thank you for helping me out on this.
