I have a seedling (birds planted) and I decided to let it grow to see if it makes figs. This year made 4 figs. I picked one today even if it was not fully ripe afraid birds will get to it first and I wanted so bad to try it. What caught my attention when I cut it was the pink flesh. Have you ever seen this? The taste was very sweet and crunchy.
wow, what a gift!!
I believe you have a brand new variety that needs,a name after you trial it for a season or two. Was it good
What a nice looking fig and leaf.
Lovely! I can't wait to hear more about this one in coming years. I think its great when folks find a new variety.
Figarita...what a cute name! Yes, very NICE fig! I would also be interested in cuttings!
Congratulations! Amazing how birds pooping can result in so many of us waxing poetic over the prospects of a new variety!T
I would love some cuttings if you are looking to circulate!
Hi,Do you have the age of the tree ?
Very nice, i hope it's as good as beautiful, and leaves are also beautiful looking. Almost all the edible seedlings i found are terrible tasting or too small. I have a Longue d'août (i think) seedling that show a foliage similar to yours, i will keep it.
best gift from the bird. :)the pink fruits looks very nice.
Hi Pat,Thank you for sharing those lovely pictures . Congratulations ! It's a nice fig.May be it's too late now but if you can, a simple gravity test of those fig seeds could probably help to get a better idea of the type of fig you have there.Do you still have that caprifig of a couple of years ago ?FranciscoPortugal
That fig looks beautiful and delicious!
Thank you all. I am very excited to taste them again next year. I have 3 more on the tree but I do not know if they will ripe. figpig_66 i can not tell much about the taste rather than it was sweet and crunchy from the seeds- which I likejdsfrance the tree is like 2y oldfigoffrandy sorry no cuttings at this timelampo Francisco,I still have in the fridge 1/2 of the fig and i could do a gravity test. I know i have to put the seeds in the water but what's next?.....I still have the caprifig :-). I got a couple of cutting from another caprifig in the neighborhood and rooted them but they are very small. I also have all the other figs but they did not grow much this year.
Most of the seeds went down but there are some floatingThis year all the fig trees made fruits very late so I do not think any will ripe. I have a lot of small figs left on my trees.
Possible names. Pink FigaritaFigarita pinkThe fig gods gifted you with this so you will live on for eternity in the fig community. :)
The seeds that sunk are viable. They will make new plants. The seeds that floated won't germinate.
Interesting detail about the shape of the seed, Francisco. I learn something new about figs every day on this forum! Thanks for your dedication & input!
Nice story that has produced so much useful information. Thank you all sharing!
Francisco, I'll keep a close eye on the remaining figs. Pray that the birds and squirrels will leave it alone. They are eating even unripe figs. I just found a couple of unripe Col de Dame Noir 1/2 eaten. Maybe I'll put a net over them.No there weren't any other figs before these. I 'll keep a closer look next year. What attracted me from the beginning when I saw it grow was the leaves. This is why I let it grow.
Thank you Francisco for the info. You are a gold mine of informations.I went and put an organza bag on 2 of remaining figs. I am curious if they will ripe. They look quite greenish and not plump like the other one. This year my caprifig just had a few figs and i did not have time to go and check the other caprifig in the neighbourhood and bring more caprifigs like i did last year. I did not bother to make time because most of my trees in July were just starting to show baby figs on them and they were too young for fig wasps.
A beautiful fig! The only other I have seen with the pink flesh is Raspberry Latte. It's as if the interior color has maybe stained the flesh or that's just the flesh color, not sure.
