Hi I have been a lurker for awhile, its great to finally see some images that were only available to registered members.

I am helping my parents who have big yard grow some figs out in Southern California San Gaberial Valley area. I picked up a Panache and Black Jack from the local homedepot. The black jack didn't survive a deer munching on its roots. I probably could have saved the tree if I discovered it sooner. Based on what I have been reading maybe losing the black jack is not such a big loss. I want pick up a few more fig trees and I was wondering if figcuttings.com is a legit venue.

No it is not.  I have contacted James over the course of 3 months looking for a refund due to his failure to deliver.  He had not responded back to 4 emails.  I called him at his private number which I found online through the Kansas Department of Agriculture.  He basically told me to F-off that he's too busy to respond to people.  he went on a rant that he has over 5,000 customers and he broke his toe.  He went on to explain to me that as of the day that I called, he had 485 emails that day alone, and it's bothersome to answer emails when he could be in the greenhouse working.

After further research I have found numerous people that have been waiting for months and have not been able to get a refund for both his fig tree's and the fish he sells.

He just provides excuse after excuse.  If he was at least NOT rude, his story would have been a little believable.  It just sounds like a business that he put too much money into and can't deliver.

Buyer beware!

There are members waiting since 2015 for their order from James (figcuttings.com).  Many have asked for refunds to no avail.  Don't do it.

Instead, get in touch with F4F's owner, Jon.  He lives down in San Diego and has a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge selection of fig trees on his property called Encanto Farms.  That's your best bet.  Also, Tyro and Harvey here on the forum are also great California based sources for fig trees.

No, that is the first time it has been mentioned. The person giving advice as if it is current has missed a critical detail. No need to add to the confusion.

Now it's even more confusing. ;-)   I was just mentioning the date in case people were going to respond now to the OP's question from a year and a half ago in hopes of helping him out.   Wasn't intending to stir the rather large pot!

RECENTLY, James has taken my money and not delivered his products in a timely manner nor has responded back to my plethora of emails.

PREVIOUSLY, as far back as 2015, James took other people's money, and to this day has not returned their money OR delivered the figs.

I hope this clarifies the topic.

That topic has arguably been quite clarified over the course of 23 pages of interesting drama in "the other" thread.  This topic appears to still be quite murky.......  :-)

For the record I ended up buying 2 varieties Ponte Tresa and Black Madeira.

I understand people's frustration on this matter, and even though I feel it is warranted, I personally have faith that the seller is not trying to screw me or anyone over.  I still believe I will get my plants.

I recommend the seller to see if he can reach out to the local college/university and see if he can set up an internship. I am sure an arrangement can be made to teach and share his knowledge of growing figs and other fruits in exchange for some help. It will be great learning experience learning to run a commercial agriculture business.

You bought the trees a year ago and still didn't get them? Has the seller responded to any inquires you made about the tree's? If you wait too long, you may not be able to charge back the expenses to PayPal or your credit card company. My guess, his delays are setup to prevent exactly that.

Even if he is not scamming, and his intentions are to deliver, he sure has a lot of delivers to make after the money he already collected and spent on his greenhouses and other business infrastructure. I'm not sure where the additional money is going to come from to start distributing while supporting himself. Maybe he'll "rob Peter to pay Paul". But when the merry-go-round stops, a whole lot of people are going to get screwed.

Good luck and hope you get your trees or your money back.
