Figdorf Salad

I am a huge fan of Waldorf salad and eat it every week. My craving for it this evening came after eating pork chops as I did not have any applesauce which is my normal side along with mashed potatoes.

As I had no apples either, I decided to use some of the figs stored in the ice box.

Waldorf salad done the way I do is just celery, walnuts, raisins, apple and mayonnaise.

Substituting the figs for the apple worked out great.
I used Hollier figs as I didn't want to use something like Ronde de Bordeaux as I didn't want a strong berry flavor.

Anyway it was very good.
I had to be more careful stirring the mayo in as I didn't want to tear the figs up, but it all worked out wonderfully and I recommend trying it if you come up short on an apple in the future.

It was named after a hotel not an ingredient but your named was considered. It just seems like a construction adhesive to me.

My closest friend just got married and moved to Adelaide. Never been myself. Close. Been to NZ and PNG. Too bad we can;t swap figs.

Oz is starting to really get a rep for great food.

Mgginva the produce in Adelaide is one of the best. We got two world class wine regions to match food. Down in the south beautiful McClaren vale and in the north Barossa wine regions. I moved to Adelaide from London and never regret a single day.

My grandmother was domestic help during the great industrial era and she would serve us Waldorf salad, because "it's what the rich people eat." Alas, my wife has an aversion to mayonnaise.

Michael, Try mixing all the other ingredients first, then adding the figs last and tossing the salad lightly around the figs.

Very creative with those figs Michael. Sounds like a good substitute and a delicious salad. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Kausikck76,
My friend says the same about the food.

Dale,
That's a good story. How can anyone not like mayo. I grew up dipping carrots into bowls of the stuff.
Waynea,
Yes, try it. I may have it again tomorrow. I had company today and we ate all the figs, so I may have to try nectarines.

Mayonnaise.  The white death.  Horrible.  I'm going to have to configscate your crop for crimes against figdom.  :)

Bob,
How come you have 2 wish lists?
What's wrong with mayo. Mine is made with olive oil and is quite nice.
Whenever I go to Holland to visit friends they put mayo on everything - they even dip their french fries in mayo and the Dutch are huge healthy looking folks.
I've been on road trips with them and seen them eat a piece of cheese as big as a baby's head in one sitting. And what are they dipping the pieces they break off in? Yep -- -- MAYONNAISE.
