Figlets Starting to Form in New England

I checked my trees today. Celeste is starting to put out figlets. No visible figlets on any of the other trees yet. Desert King had what looked to be the beginnings of figlets a few weeks ago, but I left it outdoors a couple of nights that dropped to the 30's and now it looks like those baby brebas died. I pinched my trees today so am hoping to see more figlets forming on other trees in the next few weeks.

Isn't this warm weather great!

Joe (Northern Massachusetts)

not the first sign of a fig yet here in florida.  but i'll probably have until december to harvest, so i ain't sweating it, not as long as those babies keep growing.

on the other hand, we've been having a dry year, and while drip irrigation  helps, i'd sure like to have a nice rainy season.

Figlets are forming here in Pa as well. As well as many brebas.

Jordanian main crop.

Good for you Joe, I have quite a few small figlets starting now, very happy about that.  Also my Celeste and a few other varieties.. Its the sun and HEAT. Ciao

Coincidentally, because of impatience, I was looking today at my plants for signs of main crop embryos but there were none. Last year I had started noticing them in mid June but I thought a very hot week (reaching 93 F) could have expedited it but still there were no visible embryos.  Also, most of the plants have some branches which are getting close to the 6th leaves to start pinching. That will hopefully expedite embryo formation.

Edit: I had not looked closely (with glasses on). I checked again and found that Sal (EL) has small pea size figlets already.

The heat has been coming in waves heat here in the midwest. My little guy has pushed out quite a few figlets & loves the early heat waves.  Some of the pinched ends have started to resprout. I guess I'll have to repinch the ends again.

Akram,

Looking at my larger trees today I noticed many pin head tips forming right at the point where the leaf stem and branch meet. Sure is a welcome sign.

I say in about a week or so those will form into little figlets. I hope!

All-in-all I think we are all due for a GREAT fig season and this is the season for it!

The heatwave that came from the Midwest actually came from Southern California. ( something between me and Martin ) LOL
