Figo de Quarteira

A Common high quality light fig, average to large size, very sweet and with a distinct mix of aromas and a typical juicy redish pulp.
It's now  regaining its popularity after being almost extinct.

Looks delicious!!  Describe the flavor please:
Crunch
Berry, or Rich Figgy
Juicy or dry

All that.

Suzi

Tasty and juicy! Thanks for posting.

I am anxious to see it on the other side of the pond  :)

I wish we could organize a group to import, quarantine, and distribute (when legal) an equal share of fig plants to group members at a reasonable price.

waynea, whatever you are smoking, could you share?

10-4, just thinking out loud, I didn't mean every member on the forum, just those that had a vested interest in the group....or we could do a midnight raid at UCD-USDA. Smoking??? I wouldn't do that...........

Francisco, those are gorgeous. It's encouraging to know this variety has come back from the brink.
If possible, could I ask for photos of the leaves?
I can't recall now if it was Eisen, Bobone, or another that once placed this fig, also known as Ponta, or Ponta da Quarteira (see, I've been doing my homework) as a synonym to Blanquette, which is readily available from the USDA.
Appetizing photos, as always.

Thank you all for commenting on this post.

@Suzi,
It's as you say a delicious fruit,..granma's very best as she used to say!
Being pollinated (there is pollen all over at the correct time) it builds up many solid, kerneled seeds adding a real and true crunchy flavor to the palate.
As you suggest, and like many other figs there is a figgy flavor but enriched with berry aromas loaded with that typical sweet acidity (raspberry??).
Finally, the entire strawberry pulp soaks in that thick syrup which is delicious.
This last aspect makes it difficult to dry even under the scorching sun.

@Rui,
Thank you my friend!
I will get some photos of leaves soon.
I keep calling Figo de Quarteira, just like my grand father did long ago. There are synonyms to this variety,..

da Ponte
Ponte de Quarteira
may be other

Looks delicious Francisco!

Thank you for taking your time to show to us.

Lampo,

I'm seriously starting to get very envious. It seems everyday you are posting a new variety, some we've never heard of. Please continue to do so, and I'll try and keep my jealousy to a minimum.

I love when you post photos of this one, she is a gorgeous fig and I hope that more and more people in your country plant more of her, she looks like an absolute gem.

Thank you fellow members for your sympathy.
Our California members do have an ideal climate to grow this fig.
It needs sun

Christian,
Remember me I will add on a couple of scions of this one!
Have no constraints, so far full liberty!

Paul,
If I could..

James,
Yes, people have abandoned the fig orchards and many fantastic varieties were lost forever. Recovering will take time.
I know you fell in love with Quarteira
Will get more pictures of nice ones and post a bit later !
