Figo Preto

Nice figo & must be very yummy fig,,,,

thanks for sharing,

Looks to be Grade 'A' Primo Figo from here - Excellent! How would you describe it's flavor?
It's been said to look similar to Black Madeira & grow/produce like a "Super-Black Madiera" in certain climates, yet its flavors differs apparently.
Thanks for sharing & Keep Growing!

Art: Very nice and tasty figs, thanks for sharing.

Oh Rafael, those figs look great. I have a Black Madeira but nothing is coloring up on there yet. Figo Preto? I can only dream. Good going.

Art I could not resist posting this Preto at today's breakfast. Dead ripe. Perfect texture.

I had two figs ripen on my Figo Preto about 7-14 days ago.  After that, none of the other figs on my FP have turned color.  I'm not sure if it is the weather or something else.  A few of the leaves have started to turn yellow as if it is beginning the process of entering dormancy.  I added a bit of fertilizer/micronutrients a few days ago but am still seeing the yellowing.  Mine was only rooted in spring 2013 and is in a 5 gallon SIP so maybe I shouldn't expect much more than two ripe figs this season anyway.

I bought mine in March 2012 I think in a 1 or 2 gal at Encanto. In its first year it had about 10 fruits but they did not really ripen.

Rafael, what a perfect breakfast. Congrats.

Hey thanks Wayne everyone should grow Preto.

Picked these a few days ago, one dead ripe, the others a day or more early but didn't want to lose them to critters. Very good taste, my son says kinda berry like, just figgy and richly sweet to me.

I've left three on the tree I got from Jon last year.  I also left three on Blk Mad.  All six have been swelling over the past two weeks but no color.  We are supposed to get freezing temps by morning.  I suppose they are coming in.

Rafael, Thanks for the great looking fig. I do love Figo Preto.

I've had a bunch off of my Preto's this year. Check this picture out.

I'd be happy with about ten more plants.

Yum, they look really juicy.

That's a wealth of great fruit!  These were helped along in the greenhouse, correct?  Did you use the greenhouse to give it a good start in the Spring and then grow it outside the rest of the way?

What a collection! More than several mouthfuls. Congrats.

Very nice fig.
Mine still very small..just arrived from the Islands.
Next season will show

Yeah, I got them started early in the greenhouse. I'd have a hard time getting a ripe fig from Preto where I live. I did bring them out side of the greenhouse. They seem to need the intense sun to ripen.

I tried emailing encanto farms for one....no reply. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Maybe next year

That's a great looking fig......thanks for sharing

Jarrett,
I emailed Jon at Encanto Farms a couple months ago regarding Preto.  He emailed me back to let me know that he didn't have access to the mother tree and therefore didn't have any Preto available to sell.

Beautiful looking figs. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Every one says how preto is supposed to be healthier then black madeira but the only preto I have is loaded with fmv. I would love to have a healthy preto.
