I may have picked this one a day or two early. I couldn't wait. It wasn't as good as I'd expect. I will have loads more in the coming weeks. I still gave it a 9.

Art my Pretos need probably about 10 days to start ripening, last year they ripened around this time. What is your secret? I don't think you've had weather as warm in Pa. As we've had here in NYC!

Nice work, Art. Your figs are way ahead of mine. I don't expect any Figo Preto to ripen this month.

Rafael, My secret on some of my late varieties is my small greenhouse. I started as many as I could fit in there this spring. You are right about the weather here. It's not nearly as warm as NY.

One other thing. I put all of my pots on ornamental stone. I think that heat helps. Also another thing that I noticed. I had to take all of my dark figs out of the greenhouse for the summer. They don't darken like they should. They almost look like white figs.

Grasa, I haven't tasted BM yet. Maybe soon. The nice thing is that Preto grows so much better and is really clean.

Art, I lost the Figo Preto you sent to me to fungus gnats. Sad day in my life. But, it is what it is. I really wanted it to work out. The cuttings had roots............ Not going there. Your figs look gorgeous. They may need 5 years to give you their best. Suzi

Mine is quite clean of apparent disease, but it is not a strong grower. I cut three prime branches for a trade last year, and it has not recovered too much this year, but it has put on about 45 figs, which I cannot wait for. My favorite fig until I get to try many of my babies next year. I am planning on getting a second preto-if I can't get a large crop with one, get another I say!

Mine is on its 2nd year and very strong. I've pinched once or twice and I've got 12 figs that I hope to enjoy. They're in a 5 gallon SWC. Hoping for early September harvest.

I have three on F. Preto and four on Blk Mad. It might be the other way around. I thought Blk Mad might ripen first as the figs are slightly bigger, but one of the F. Preto figs is starting to get a hint of color. Just in time for the cool weather next week.

Looks to be Grade 'A' Primo Figo from here - Excellent! How would you describe it's flavor? It's been said to look similar to Black Madeira & grow/produce like a "Super-Black Madiera" in certain climates, yet its flavors differs apparently. Thanks for sharing & Keep Growing!

I had two figs ripen on my Figo Preto about 7-14 days ago. After that, none of the other figs on my FP have turned color. I'm not sure if it is the weather or something else. A few of the leaves have started to turn yellow as if it is beginning the process of entering dormancy. I added a bit of fertilizer/micronutrients a few days ago but am still seeing the yellowing. Mine was only rooted in spring 2013 and is in a 5 gallon SIP so maybe I shouldn't expect much more than two ripe figs this season anyway.

I bought mine in March 2012 I think in a 1 or 2 gal at Encanto. In its first year it had about 10 fruits but they did not really ripen.

Picked these a few days ago, one dead ripe, the others a day or more early but didn't want to lose them to critters. Very good taste, my son says kinda berry like, just figgy and richly sweet to me.

I've left three on the tree I got from Jon last year. I also left three on Blk Mad. All six have been swelling over the past two weeks but no color. We are supposed to get freezing temps by morning. I suppose they are coming in.

That's a wealth of great fruit! These were helped along in the greenhouse, correct? Did you use the greenhouse to give it a good start in the Spring and then grow it outside the rest of the way?

Yeah, I got them started early in the greenhouse. I'd have a hard time getting a ripe fig from Preto where I live. I did bring them out side of the greenhouse. They seem to need the intense sun to ripen.

Jarrett, I emailed Jon at Encanto Farms a couple months ago regarding Preto. He emailed me back to let me know that he didn't have access to the mother tree and therefore didn't have any Preto available to sell.
