Figs 4 Fun possible layout changes

I like #3 (which is somewhat like #2) if there is consistency in keeping the blank fate lines (for PHOTOS and MORE INFO) even at the end of the description of the varieties where there is no photo and no more info yet. For example you have blank fat lines for "A Bois jasper" but then missing for ABICOU, ABOUKANIS BLACK and others where the description ends with fig leaf.
It helps if there is clear separation between each variety. If you choose not to add the blank fat lines, a thin line between each variety may provide a good visual separation between each variety.
Again, #2 is fine too if there was a separation (a narrow white or other colour line) between each variety.

I think the goal is to have a series of bars, or buttons, or whatever across the bottom of each entry/variety that take you to synonyms, photos, more info, and whatever else there is, so that each variety will have the same presentation, but some buttons will be blank, when there is nothing in that category. I only changed one or two varieties near the top of the page, trying different things, before I do the whole thing - so most of the page is the existing right hand frame of the current website (the index bar is missing). Ultimately, I am going to do what I am convinced is best, but different people do things differently, so I wanted to get ideas and input, so that we all enjoy a better product in the end. If I get a pattern established, now, then I can slowly add more stuff without redoing the whole thing.

I started with the pix on the left side, but it was awkward when there was no pix of a certain variety. I want to provide one nice representative pix for each variety, where I can, and then have the rest of the pix on a separate age (which I have finished, except for a few I missed).

When I get the button/links, etc. laid out, then I can add more pages of info, such as the USDA/UC Davis accession data, Condit's material, and a bunch of other stuff that I have collected.

Giving definition and separation to each variety is a definite goal, as well. I think the black bars/buttons might be little "heavy", so might make then a little smaller, or maybe green, or ? so they are a little "softer".

My choice would be number 2.  I like the simplicity of the plain words separated by a vertical line at the bottom of each variety, and the color change when the link is loaded.  I'm not particularly fond of the green/purple combination but it is clear when more info is available.  I would keep the dark green and choose a light green similar to the background when the link is empty.

Just another opinion........
