There are several methods of breaking out of frames, some involve spawning new pages, some will actually do this without loading a new page. If you have not considered the options, or want to play with some options, check this out, code samples and everything: http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/framebreak.shtml
I think using the "onload" attribute shown in the body tag of the F4F homepage, then linking to it from the frame of the variety db would cause the frames to break out once you clicked the link to go home.
I worked in interactive website design, mostly database and back-end driven, for many years, starting in 1998 and spanning through approximately 2004 (although I was designing websites since the internet started). They would beat us if we used frames. If you ever want to explore options for the page, let me know. I can start playing around with some options in my spare time over the holidays and present them to you, see if you like any of them.
It would also simplify your life with editing things, reduce mistakes because you'd be using templates for the pages and entries.
