Figs and boiled peanuts

What an odd combination for lunch:)  But surprisingly awesome.  The salty peanuts opposed to the sweet figs (Celeste).   Neighbor brought me back a bushel of green peanuts yesterday and I boiled them up, well half yesterday and second half is on boiling now.  A definite southern treat.

Yes it is.

I hear ya Susie. When I first read this post, it made me think of peanuts in an RC cola. Haven't thought about that in years.

Sounds like a great combo.
I grew up eating boiled peanuts and I tried to introduce boiled peanuts to lots of people here in NH.
Even tried calling them Southern edamame to get people to give them a try.
In general it wasn't the big hit I had hoped it would be , but I did find some folks who loved them.

Boiled peanuts and figs, That's close enough to peanut butter and jelly.Sounds good to me. I wonder what figs and grits would taste like?

Holy Crap! What an idea! Maybe something like blackened figs over grits perhaps? omg

Boiled peanuts were one of best surprises of the south. The first time I saw them I thought they looked like Calif slugs!. I tasted one to be polite and WOW.  I boiled a bunch and canned them. Now I'm all set and waiting for those figs to get ripe.

Yes Mike,

That trip to Houma, La. is looking mighty fine now.
Crawfish and boiled peanuts. I sure miss those trips along the I-10.

And those cracklins!

Now that's funny 'cos I've never heard of anyone doing that before, but I guess it's easy enough to do. We just always had them for an entire summer and then everybody was sick of them and ready for a reprieve, so we didn't miss them in the off season.

Never thought about canning them. They were just always a summer thing. But I do have a brother in Chicago who gets a yen on occasion and begs his southern friends/relatives to send him green peanuts and he boils them and freezes 'em. Seems to work just as well.

Cracklin cornbread will make ya wanna slap your grandma! ('cos she never made it so good) lol

In South Georgia some school agriculture programs sell locally canned boiled peanuts as a fund raiser.

Womack,

Schools around here sell cookie dough for fund raisers.

I rather go with the boiled peanuts.
