Anyone have any experience with this?
i don't care too much of venison.. maybe it will improve with figs.
bambi taste good
Good answers. How about as far as the deer eating the figs and leaves of the trees?
I have yet to see any around them but pics of my Mother-in law has worked wonders.
i heard that in some area they do some damage. we have few around here.. and since it's not an area for hunting, they come by often. but so far, i haven't seen any damage due to deer. then again i keep all my figs indoor in winter.
The started munching on leaves in the fall. My answer was to take up bow hunting again and make this problem disappear. Now I have venison in the freezer and less fig destroyers. Is making a venison loin with fig sauce poetic justice? I say this as I just enjoyed two venison hot dogs for lunch.
In my area, they go for the fig fruit. Haven't seen them eat the leaves but I have mulberries around which they prefer the leaves to about anything. Deer here are practically domesticated (Charlotte, NC) and have no fear of munching down the garden 10 feet in front of you. I hit one with a baseball this summer and they haven't come inside my fence since.I think your bigger worry is a buck rutting on a young tree. Just had to cut down a 3rd year plum tree (outside the fence) to a stub from a rutting buck that practically destroyed it.
Had one take out 3 fig cuttings,1 jolly tiger,1 florea, and 1 hardy chicago. Now I have big dog and they no longer come in my yard.
The deer never bothered my figs but were a PITA to most everything else. I finally had enough and fenced off the entire property.
My mother in law looks like the landlord on the movie kingpin, might have to put a pic outside on the trees.
They don't bother my figs, but the young Oak tree, yes. They chew the leaves off a 6-10' tall Oak, in minutes.Dominick, Now you'll be in trouble like Bass :)Navid.
I wouldn't put it past a deer to eat anything. However I haven't heard of them browsing on figs much. I would think there is potential for bucks to rub their antlers on the trunk. Keep in mind that anything planted in a natural deer travel corridor will likely get browsed in areas with high deer populations.
Slingha, you're talking my style... can't wait to stock a freezer with deer for the winter. I have to take the hunter class and get me a bow.
