Figs and Faith

In the bible there are more than 44 verses where fig trees are mentioned more that 500 times. I am not sure on the numberes in other faiths but know that just about all of them speak of figs. my favoret is as follows.

proverbs 27-18 whoever nurtures the fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever obeys his master will be honored.

No i am not posting this to cause any probles of faith what is right or wrong or offend anyone. just wondering what other faiths have quotes about figs and what people faverots are. i am not posting this for division of faithes but unity of figs.

Please keep it clean and respectable.

Nice thread.  Did a quick google and found this:

Figs are used to symbolize a great end-time meteor storm that will occur as part of the prophesied Signs In The Heavens -
"The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars (i.e. meteorites] in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind." (Revelation 6:12-13)

Hebrew Bible

The fig tree is the third tree to be mentioned by name in the Hebrew Bible. The first is the Tree of life and the second is the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Probably the most famous is Jesus cursing the fig tree.

Mark 11:12-14 and 11:20-25[2]

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

...

In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!” “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Matthew 21:18-22[3]

Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked. Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Jesus also sparred one earlier in his ministry.

Luke 13:6–9

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Yes there is a.............Chapter  At-Tīn(The Fig)....... in Qura'n
(Translation by Picktal)

By the fig and the olive, and by Mount Sinai,
And by this land made safe;
Surely We have created man of the best stature
Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,
Except those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.
So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment?

Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges?

Parable of the Fig Tree

32“Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. 34“Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

36“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37“For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38“For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40“Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41“Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.

This is one of my favorite references to figs in the Holy Scriptures (Bible):

"And they will actually sit, each one under his vine and under his fig tree, and there will be no one making them tremble;".........  Micah 4:4 (NWT)

It's a figurative reference to a time of peace and a time when all war has ceased. Sounds pretty good to me ;) .

I'm with you on that one Bill.
"gene"

this is good.

i would agree and end to war would be awsome, but we humans are doomed to destroy ourselves.

Thanks for starting this thread.   The responses are excellent, a very good fig related topic.

John 1  vs 48Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." 49Nathanael answered Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel." 50Jesus answered and said to him,"Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these." 51And He said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
