Does any one know of any reason why figs and tomatoes should not be planted near each other?Grantz5b
be afraid... be very afraid... something like following can happen... http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/a-new-breed-Figato-5801569?highlight=figato J/K!!! Pete
If you do not have in your garden RKN (root knot nematodes), you might bring them in with bought tomato, pepper and other plants. RKN on the roots of fig trees is deadly.
My main concern would be bugs (of course including RKN) but spider mites, whiteflies, or just something that likes the tomatoe and decides it wants to see inside the figs, but that is just a hunch on my part and I may just be overly cautious.
Good one Pete.so mostly just caution about bringing in pests.thanksGrantz5b
how about when placing figs plants that are in pots in 2-3" of soil like some members are doing to encourage roots growth into the ground.
Is there a way to test the soil for RKN?Jo-Ann
i heard that you can plant carrots and if there is RKN, the carrots will look funny. i don't know if my soil has RKN or not, so i just keep all my fig trees away from my local soil.

I'm glad I read this before we move to some acreage because I love fresh tomatoes, but they bring evil to vineyards too! That horned tomato worm can strip an entire cane of leaves in one night! Learned that the hard way!
