figs and wet feet

Hi i am trying to stop my granite tiles  in the terrace from being dirty of compost tea like water  and put  saucer under my biggest tree.
the problem is i cant remove the saucer everytime cause its heavy .
is it reccomended ( i saw some post saying they got better yield or somthing.....
i also  saw bill smethod with subirrigation and the soil is in water all the time.
can i leave the fig  tree in the saucer full with water/compost tea? if yes for how much time?

thanks

i keep "soucer" under my older trees during summer, and water them everyday. otherwise, they will get heat stressed rather quick with high 90 to above 100 temp here. when it rains a lot, i hand pump the water out.

here gets 110 also.
maybe i put too much compost  so the water is not clear..... anyhow lifting 50 kilos everytime is not easy

Maybe you could put something in the saucer to slightly elevate the pot to prevent it from soaking. Say like a couple of bricks or 3 pieces of tubing placed in a triangle.

Then if the tree drops some roots down below the pot for an extra drink, it's no big deal.

hey maybe hell drop by the neighbourhood pub for a drink on the way :)

I elevate the pot and it's saucer, onto milk crates, bricks, etc.
and use a strip of wet cloth as a wick and hang it over the side of the water filled saucer,
guiding the extra water to drip into a coffee can, or other container below it.
I pour the wicked off water through again, or toss it when needed.
When the saucer empties, I store the cloth strip in the saucer to get wet the next time it's needed.
and to keep it handy in case of immenent over flowing.

hey dan dont you care about cosmetics?
elevating the pot on bricks and all looks  un professional. i preffer having some water on the floor till drying for some hours instead.

maybe ill drill a hole in corner of the saucer and fill it with wine cork for the winter-spring  , cause in the hot summer maybe the water will wick?

When it's cool out you want the water to drain away and not have wet feet.  When it's hot out the tree will probably use water faster than you can replace it.
