Figs Dining Out

This may be more common than I know, but I don't get out much. I just came back from dinner at The Blackbird in Temecula, CA. We had the Butternut Fig Flat Bread appetizer. Though it was good, the butternut was sweeter than the figs, and the Gorgonzola added even more overpowering flavor. So, the figs ended up being decorative. They were tiny black figs, no more than an inch diameter (that's an individual-sized flat bread). Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture in a dark room. Anyway, glad to see figs making it on the menu.

Sure does look good!

I wish the figs played more of a central role. But, they do add a nice touch. It would be a much less interesting dish without them.

"Milestones" here in Canada also has an appetizer... baked goats cheese with fig preserve you spread on flat bread... very tasty! :) It also comes with a cranberry preserve but I tell them to forget that and give me an extra fig preserve :)
