Figs for sale

I have gilbon fig cuttings for sale on ebay got them from my 6 yr.old tree. Will be haveing some more to an will be sell Brown turkey small trees as also..

nothing like spamming on the first post.
also you claim to not be a scam yet you can even spell

legitimate

At the office, when people cold call me or show up at the office without warning and try to sell me something, this is the #1 fastest way to get me to blow you off, send you packing

Call me dumb, but I feel the same way on the internet.  The last person on the face of the planet I will EVER give my business to is someone that thinks it's appropriate to make their first post a sales post.

I certainly hope others don't buy into this, or you're just saying "it's OK" to behave this way.

Degrady,

You have to look at it from everyone elses point of view.

Too many Red Flags.

You are offering to sell your product here without allowing us to get to know you at first. It is not a rule but would've helped you a little bit.

You are offering a product that I think no one has ever heard of. How hardy is it? What is it? How does it taste? Is it breba crop only? Etc. Etc..
You said you've had this tree for six years so I'm sure you have taken a picture or two.

Further more, You stated you are a member on both fig forums.
Anybody can become a member and you just registered.

The gentlemen that responded before me are simply trying to protect the integrity and good reputation of this and the other forum.

I believe everyone deserve a fair shot in life and I wish you good luck in your sales on Ebay. But would ask you to remove your comments on being a member of both fig communities till you have established yourself as trust worthy.

We welcome you to this forum to offer us any knowledge or expertise you may have with figs and at the same time you are welcome to ask question as well.

I hope I have put my two cents in.

Well said Rafed.

DeGrady,
You MIGHT be able to save this fumble - IF you actually are legit and IF you come back with lots of what Rafed outlined above.
An appropriate admission of error and an apology served with a small side of groveling might help too - maybe?

Well said, Rafed, Jason and Bill.  Well said!  And I needed that good laugh!

I had never heard of a "Gilbon" fig.

I have a Gulbun (2005.UCD102) = Galbun?!
Is this another misspelling?
I hate when fig names "sound" so similar...

You have the same picture of cuttings as the ones from Turkey on e bay. Just one more RED flag, either you are the same people or its not your pictures. So please dont call anybody a scammer or idiot its not going to make you look any better. Most of us here do this because we love it and not for money. People on this forum would give you the shirt off their backs. So dont use us in your IDIOT SCAM.

I AGREE Winterville It's a great hobby and a lot of members do go out the way for us so we get what we want and God Bless Them.

How about this picture, I swear ive seen it before. Does anybody know?
I just hope people dont get taken and only find out in a year or two that they dont have what they paid for. We all have seen this done before and some still get away with it. All we can do is try to inform on who to stay away from.
Mike.

Yes, it is stolen from Ken Love.  http://www.hawaiifruit.net/FIgsgrid/index_3.htm

This theft can be reported by Ken Love, the owner of the pictures.

Scammer indeed.  Sorry if I'm jumping to conclusions but just the thought of shady people really pisses me off, especially in THIS community.

I held back from posting but i knew this picture looked familar but could not place where i saw it .
Its been a while since i visited Kens site and even had past correspondence with him and he is a very nice fella its a shame this happened.
Yes thats is his picture it matches exactly there is no doubt.

Poor Guy, maybe he let his enthusiasm get in front of his thinking and good judgment. Maybe we should welcome him and give him some good advice and help, Instead of jumping on his head with both feet. That is what this sight is about, right? Good advice Rafed.

Last year my friend bought few fig cuttings from eBay and he never received them. This is the reason I don't buy cuttings from ebay or anybody else on-line. I have purchased scions from Jon before with great results and no problems. I will buy from Jon if I need more cuttings.

Jason,  Thank you for verifying where that image came from. I knew I'd seen that photo format being used on someone else's site as well.

Jstall, I agree with you, everyone deserves a fair shake. But I know if it was me who made the obvious mistake above, I would at least be doing my best to admit it and correct it. I haven't seen a single post from DeGrady since the first one - have you?

nkesh,  ebay is not a bad place to buy fig cuttings. You just have to know who you're buying from. It seems that most of the credible folks with good reputations sell some cuttings on ebay from time to time. It is a shame though to see some possibly using an "angle" like refferring to being a "forum member" only in an attempt to get something sold on ebay.

There are those of us who have noted in our ebay auctions that we are members of this and other garden forums. But I think the reasons are a little more honorable than why some others are doing so. Seems the credibility of this forum is catching on so well that it's being used for good as well as for not-so-good ends - allegedly.

I know I speak for myself and a few others when I say the reasons we use that reference is to lend some credence to the fact that the plant material we are offering is (to the best of are knowledge) what we're saying it is and is of good quality. But the most important reason I do it is because it's the least we can do for Jon who created this great forum for us all to exchange quality information that we've been able to learn and benefit from.

This is, in fact, how I learned about this forum myself. I did a search on ebay for fig tree cuttings and saw a reference to this forum in one of our forum members auctions.  = Free advertising for the F4F Forum. No harm, no foul - as long as we're offering good material  :-) .

Ebay is an excellent site, in my opinion, for obtaining quality fig cuttings/trees.That is how I came to buy almost all my fig products from others and will buy again and again. I looked at what others had to say and looked at eBay reviews. I will vouch for several members on this site that I have had a great experience with.

Saxonfig (Fruitnut)
Gorgi (Figsnstuff)
Herman2 (hermansur)
Bass (trees of joy)
johnsmvf
ejp3 (ep)
northeastnewbie (06picl)

This is just those that I have dealt with and by no means a reflection on others that are left out. I just have not had the opportunity to deal with others not listed.

Though I have not bought or traded with her, Cathy (texascockatoos) was very generous in sending cuttings found on the side of the road.

The cuttings/trees have been healthy and sound, with no qualms at all.

Hopefully this may alleviate any trepidation on others part about eBay. Most of those on this site seem to be of good conscience and dignity, standing behind what they sell or trade.

Bill,

I am totally agree with you. Anyone buying from ebay should know who is he/she is dealing with or if they are a credible seller. My friend didn't know this and never got what he paid for. Maybe it was lost during shipping.

Navid

"lost during shipping".  i've had that one happen before.  didn't buy that excuse for a second, either.  i always request shipping confirmation on anything i pay for.  it costs a dollar extra at most, and no additional time on the part of the shipper.

i'm sure i probably sound pretty harsh above.  i deal with internet scammers as part of my day-to-day career and have for almost 12 years now, so i'll ask that y'all forgive me for being skeptical right off the bat, having seen at least three or four red flags in the short few sentences typed.

right or wrong, i'll eat my words if this person actually comes back and tries to make nice.  i won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen, though.

I agree Jason, this guy had to go to a lot of trouble to find and post somebody else's picture. I think he knew what he was doing. If it looks like a duck walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. By God its a DUCK. Looks like a scam to me.

Mike

If people ask and want to use my photos on their personal site with credit to me or Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers I dont have a problem at all, if they ask.

This person didn't ask and I never let  the pictures be used  for selling or spamming -- only  in some scholarly type publication or if Jon needed them for something here.

The worst offense when I experienced was when I was waiting for my wife shopping in Florence Italy and wandered into a book store. I always buy foreign ag and cook books. Wow a book on Avocados in Italy and every damn picture was stolen by the author and credited to him. I wrote the publisher in English and Italian and wrote the newspapers in Florence, Milan and national papers in Rome. No one gives a sh*t about anything there. God help Maurizio Rosenberg Colorni if I ever meet him face to face.

Wow that stinks can't believe that the publishers didn't do anything I may know a good lawyer in Naples Vitorio Cabrini went to school with him in Dubai

Wow Konaken, i am sorry if an Italian citizen stole you photo's and published them, you have every right to be upset, but please, under no circumstance blame the country or the people for not making it right for you. Actually, yes, we do give a s...t about alot of things, many things that are found mundane in America, we are abolutely very proud and find respectful in Italy,  i would hope you didn't get a bad reaction, if so then just stay away, as some things, are not as importanta in other countries..... sometimes importance is based on other top priority, not a recipe book. I wish you best in dealing with these issues. Ciao
