Figs from Tunisia

  • JoF

Hello,
I get an enracined cutting from Tunisia 1,5 years ago, and plant it in my garden here in France  , this the first year that it gets fruits at maturity, and i am surprised of the very goodbouhouli 1.jpeg  taste of these quite big  figs because of the less sunny weather in France than in Tunisia, the fruit are delicious.
i think thi fig tree is a good candidat for acclimation here;
Hey Francisco if you want cuttings from this variety i think it's Bouhouli variety..
Regards.

Hello Jamel

Nice hearing from you with news and pictures of your very nice black figs.
My memories of Bouhouli are of a different shape ... more  flat and wide...?!
Are these fruit breba or main crop. If you have some still on the tree please let us have a look.

IMO it's too late to ripen brebas even if they grow in France (?) .. may be I am wrong.

My understanding is that Bouhouli is a San Pedro, this meaning that it would require pollination for its main crop..
Can you please clarify this  ?

Hello fransisco,
It may be another variety than Bouhouli,  although it is a very good fig
there are many types of figs in Tunisia.
Don't worry i am sure to get some authentics Bouhoulis when i 'll return in Tunisia.
if you are ineterested in this varierty tell me.
I will try to make some pics of the plant and the fruits on it.

Fransisco my own plant here in France didn't need polinisation to ripe the fruit this year.
here in  France under the Loire river the blastophage is present).

Jamel,

I found this list of Tunsian figs. Do you have any idea if the fig in your photo is a San Pedro or a Smyrna?

Jamel,
You may be right . That fig of yours seem to be very different from Bouhouli
Confirm that I am still interested to try Bouhouli and to cut a deal with you on the proposed exchange when time is right

shows bouhuli figs in 1:37 , also note their method of flood irrigation pavers.

Enjoy all.

Very nice. Thank You for posting.

Hi Eli.

Thanks for showing the nice video
Correct! That round/dark fig shown in the clip is in fact a Bouhouli breba!
These are San Pedro class fruit with their main crop ripening in September (needs pollination !) , also dark skinned and very flavored.. making a very good dry fig.
