I think you bought some seeds of these types but there are 5 types of figs you mentioned are labelled and dont know about the others ,it is not in my region and these are not their original name so it is translated.to sum up,these 5 types are smynra types.

so 5 of them are smyrna,, which one are smyrna types,,  could you mention which number,

no it need wasp and pollination and it is dried fig types.

for magnificco:
I have early season figs such as siyah orak ,beyaz orak ,bursa siyahi,sarilop
and late season figs are bardacik,eggplant,sari zeybek,yesilguz,morguz,beyazguz

Ercan, can you please  make two list of cultivars,
one list with figs of common type, which don't need pollination
and the other list with cultivars that require fig wasp.

Most of us live in zones where caprifigs or fig wasps are not present.

Which one of early cultivars are common type variety?

Ercan, welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your varieties and information.   Figs must be very deeply rooted in the culture of your country!   Are you a grower? I'd like to hear more about your operation if so.
Of the types you mentioned, siyah orak ,beyaz orak and other early common types are the most interest to me, but I like to hear about all aspects of agricultural practices traditional and modern, as well as culinary uses for figs.

Unfortunately, I was not able to visit Bursa to meet Ercan Bilgi because of a very bad weather when I was in Istanbul.

However, we are now cooperating to publicise Turkish figs through my facebook Exotic Figs Garden.

We managed to carry three write-ups namely a short listing of Turkish figs (common, Smyrna and San Pedro), a write-up on Syiah Orak fig and a write-up on

I have visited Turkey before.  Istanbul.  Stayed in a nice hotel on the Bosphorus River.  Too bad it was prior to my interest in figs, but I thought the country to be beautiful!

I wonder if anyone visited your plantation and purchased a fig tree from you, how easy it would be to get it through customs.  We can't trade cuttings, so I doubt a live fig would pass either.

My Bursa Siyahi (Black Bursa) tree arrived yesterday from Rolling River Nursery, an impulse buy after buying their Hollier. They describe it as:

” Considered by many connoisseurs to be the best fig of all, it is exported in great quantities from its native region of Bursa, Turkey to Europe where it dominates the fresh eating market. Large size, black skin and dark red flesh that is firm, yet has a high juice content, with an extraordinary and sweet flavor.” 

We have the wasp and the long ripening season here in Altadena like in Turkey. Is anyone else here growing it? What does it taste like: sugar, honey, fruity?

yes I live in Bursa city that is the origin place of Bursa black fig.I have been growing black Bursa for years.It is really good quality but as you said it needs pollination and caprifig.
it is very large and very sweet.

According to this book in Google books, Tropical and Subtropical Fruits: Postharvest Physiology, Processing and …., in 2006, 75% of the figs produced in the Bursa region were Bursa Siyahi. Seventy-eight percent of this crop was exported to France, UK, Netherlands and Germany.

So does that means that not too many Bursa Siyahi fruit stay in Turkey? (22%)  It seems to have both size, flavor, and the ability to be shipped long distances to its credit. I can’t find it listed in the data base here: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/file?id=1658209

I have high suspicion that this small plant is from Bursa siahy cuttings.
Maybe you can confirm based on your experience?

The plant is a slow grower somehow (soil?)and has a speeading way of growing.
Maybe ill see fruit this year if my male acts up right too.
