figs in the Caribbean

Hello,
I just go back from Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean. I was amazed to see how well some figs are grown.
Here's a fig in Tobago.

This fig is a light green fig with dark red inside. It doesn't crack even with high humidity there. The tree produces figs all year round, the best figs produced in the dry season.

Nice pictures Bass.  I hope your trip was fun and relaxing.  Did you have your pruners with you?  :)

I wish I brought some cuttings. You have to remember, these cuttings have to be greenwood, since the tree never goes dormant. Most likely the cuttings would have dried up before getting to the states.
They normally propagate them by removing the suckers.

Bass,

Have you never rooted "green" cuttings?  Last year I did for the first time.  I had my doubts, but Leon assured me they rooted easily.  I cut about a dozen cuttings in May (with full sized leaves).  I sent five of them to Leon, and I rooted the rest.  Both Leon and I were 100% with rooting these cuttings.  I think Leon has stable plants from all five of those cuttings.  I lost one or two of mine after they rooted, but the the ones I have left (I traded a couple of them) are stable plants now that have already leafed out this year.
