Figs & More Update

Just a quick update on some of the newer figs started this year...

The LSU Hollier I began rooting in March and has already grown to over 5' tall, although, no signs of figs, yet:

I started a Cajun Gold fig at the same time as the Hollier (both were donated by a very generous member - thanks, again!).  The Cajun Gold was much more difficult to root, and when it did root, it was a very slow starter, but is now a little over 3' tall and has several figs, despite my removing several when they were immature:

I have two Strawberry Verte's purchased from Jon and rooted in February.  I must have removed at least a half a dozen immature figs from each of these trying to get the plant to just focus on growth, but it just kept putting out more figs, so as with the Cajun Gold, I decided I'd just allow a few to develop to see how they are.  If it was growing out in the wild, it wouldn't have me to keep picking the young figs off, anyways, right? ;)

And, for a couple of off-topic pics...

Here's a couple of nice papayas ripening on the older of my two TR Hoveys:

And, finally...the oldest of my three Dwarf Cavendish Bananas (the mom of the other two) had a tragedy a few months ago when she was completely ripped from her roots in a tropical storm.  Some members on a Banana forum convinced me to replant it, even though I was convinced it was a "goner".  But, I did replant it and stake it off for support.  It lost all of its leaves and then, one-by-one, new leaves began to emerge and she started flowering a few weeks ago, so now....

Yes, we have some bananas!!!

It has a condition called, "choking" where the flower didn't completely emerge from the pseudostem, most likely from the stress of being ripped from her roots.  So, as you can see, rather than the bunch hanging down, it's actually pointed up.  This shouldn't effect the quality of the fruit and I'm just happy I  didn't have to wait another year to get some home-grown bananas.

Happy weekend!

That's awesome Figoro. I bought the JR Hoveys and they are pretty but haven't even thought about flowering. Spectacular on the bananas. Please show up pics when ripe and taste profile :)
