Figs of CZ, Calabria

I've seen posts mentioning Calabrese figs of many varieties.  I'd like to know who has any to sell or trade.  My husband is from Pianopoli,a small town in Reggio, Calabria, near Nicastro.  Since I'm into figs I'd like to get a couple varieties for him.  Encanto farm sells one named Cosenza I'm going to try to get.   If anyone can suggest another variety typical for that province and a source I'd appreciate it.  He doesn't know any by name.

Thank you,  Soni

Frank ( FMD ) might be able to help me on this but I have Norella and Columbarao Nero and Columbaro Bianco. I believe they are all from that region.

I just started the Nerella and Columbaro Nero not too long ago.

There are also Calabrese and Calabrese Long. Had the CL but gave it away.

I found these two figs from Calabria  FiCO BIANCO (Caiabria, Italy (a) large round, white red center (2 crops)

FICO PICCOLO BIANCO (Calabria, Italy )(a) small, white, lite-amber center (2 crops)

Thank you,  Now the  search begins

Part of the fun is the  search

I wonder if Figoin and Capitola Long are from that region?

Look up italyitaly on ebay and ask him. His name is Antonio Rigato. He is a member here but has not been around for a long time. Very good gentleman.

I have also been looking for figs from Calabria. My grandfather came from Cerzeto which is in Cosenza. Encanto has a tree called Troiano Calabrese . I read that the zucchini fig comes from Cosenza also.

Soni, Check with me in the fall if you don't get the Cosenza fig off of Jon. I should have cuttings then.

If you see Chiappetta Unk., that is the same fig.

Thanks Paul and Kubota1,    I had an email from Jon.    He's pretty sure the Cosenza are all gone but put me on the wish.
Funny I had Chiapetta on my wish list  and it turns out to be Cosenza too.

Calabria is a Region in Southern Italy made up of 3 Provinces: from north to south they are Cosenza, Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria.
Soni, I have several figs from Calabria:
1. Cucchiano Dark that turned out be Siiclian Red
2. Cucchiano White - fruiting now
3. San Donato Black- fruit pending this year
4. Chiappetta/San Vincenzo/Cosenza which you are familiar with
5. Columbu Niuru - fruit pending

I would be glad to share cuttings with your husband at the appropriate time of the year for cuttings.

Thank you Frank!  His town is in the toe. Catanzaro not Cosenza..... C's and Z's
He keeps saying he'll go visit his town and get some fig cuttings next year, and next year, next year. I think a bunch of fig-lovers should get together and go on fig safari to Italy.

There is also Triano Calabrese. (It may be the same fig as Troiano Calabrese).  I have a specimen of this, but pretty severe FMV/FMD symptoms, and not large enough for cuttings yet.  (Hoping to nurse it along).

A couple others that grow in Calabria in addition to those mentioned by others above:

  - Cavaliere  (might be the same as Brogiotto Nero)
  - Filacciano Bianco
  - Culummu Niuru (possibly the same as Columbaro Nero, too soon to be certain, but I suspect it is so).

Good luck in your search.  I have a few of the ones that others have mentioned, and might have some cuttings in the fall.
