Figs on air layered trunk

Should I wait for the figs to finish to take the new trunk?  the new one is well rooted but a small root ball, if I take it now will I lose the figs?  I have been air layering for a couple of years but I have never had such a crop of figs on the layered trunk.

Danny, its up to you.
Do you need more those extra figs on the air layer or do you want to give that energy to the new growing plant?

You do not want the resource hog that the fruit will be on a freshly removed air-layer, so either remove the figs, or wait till they are ripe and gone.

I would NEVER disagree with Jon, and I was thinking the same thing.  I have a couple prolific trees from which I have promised air layers, but they are LOADED with figs.  This has stopped me from starting my air layers, but now, I'll just do it, get the roots, eat the figs, then cut them off.  The recipients will surely enjoy figs from those trees next year!

Waiting till done, eating ripe figs one at a time.

Suzi, have you seem my posts regarding etiolating limbs? You could stay the process before the figs ripen then put the layer done on once the figs are picked. Hi

You mentioned a small root ball. Assuming you are leaving the air layer on a while longer, you could make your air layer larger. It would be all that much stronger when removed.
