Figs on my mind

Hello all,

I recently took a trip to California where I had fresh figs on a salad. They were green on the outside and pink on the inside and not very sweet. Ever since I've had a craving for them. Anyway since I can't seem to find them in the grocery stores in Ohio, I thought I'd try my hand at growing a tree in a pot. Any suggestions on what variety isn't too sweet and would grow in a pot well?
Thanks!

They were probably less sweet because they were less than ripe. Truly ripe figs don't ship well, and have a very short shelf life. If you pick them a couple days early, as the commercial people do, they don't have time to develop all of their usual/potential sugars.  I would try a Violette de Bordeaux or a Celeste.

Jon's listed some great figs but if you want a green/pink fig that's easy to get a hold of try Conadria.

Ronde de Bordeaux is a great potted fig as well.  Black fig with red flesh and ripens sooner than most varieties.

Some suggestions based off of the flavor groups that all should do well in containers in Ohio.

Sugar: Improved Celeste, Florea
Honey: Atreano, Lattarula, Brooklyn White
Adriatic: Conadria, Green Ischia, Adriatic JH, Smith
Bordeaux: Ronde de Bordeaux (RDB), Violet de Bordeaux (VDB)
Dark Berry: Marseilles Black VS (MBVS), Takoma Violet, Hardy Chicago, Sal's EL/GS
