Figs on the golf course

Went to Myrtle Beach last weekend and played mini golf.  On the main drag is a mini golf course with two courses.  Jungle Lagoon or something like that.  One of the courses has 5 or 6 really big fig trees which were loaded with figs.  Squish on the course and everything.  Sign everywhere saying For safety reasons do not pick and eat the figs.  I talked to the attendant who admitted eating the figs but said they had to put the signs up because a 79 year old women fell while trying to climb the hill to reach some figs so for insurance they had to put signs up.

Ooh! I wouldn't have left without trying one or six:)

no pics? <:/

I've found a few wild figs growing along golf courses, but none intentionally planted big trees.  Probably for the squish reason?  I've got two olive trees taken from golf course olive suckers.  Jump out of the golf cart while the guys take their sweet time (and they do) putting, snake a few suckers, put in the water cup, bring home, strip the leaves and cut the top one in half, sink in the dirt outside, and wait.  Two grew into 6' trees.  We had to seriously cut them back for the move, but they are growing here.

I tried to get some wild fig cuttings to grow, but that was not successful.

Sorry you couldn't enjoy those figs!  Golf courses always need money.  I bet if they harvested them daily, people would buy..........
