Figs picked today

These are Celeste figs I picked today from an in ground tree that up to this year only made marble size figs. Very nice and tasty this year.

This is what happens when you don't get home early enough.

Celeste top, Improved Celeste bottom (Imp. Celeste first fig on 1 yr. old tree)

Hope you enjoyed,

They sure look good Gene!  Looks like you came back just in time.
How was the Improved compared to the regular Celeste?

Oh. YUM!  Very pretty figs, Gene.  I've been able to steal a few figs from the birds.  You should have heard them hollering at me!  I just laughed.  The bird netting never got put up last time Mike was home.  He's been working over a lot since the blowout and he needed to rest.  I was going to put it up myself, but it's been raining so much.  (Yay!!!  Precious rain!!!)

Hope to see you soon,

Vivian

Gene, Which one taste better --- the Celeste or the Improved Celeste ?

Vivian what a picture you put in my head. The birds squawking at you and you laughing back.

The Improve Celeste didn't taste improved. It had a washed out flavor. Of course the tree is only a little over 1 year old and this is the first fig to come off of it. I don't think this is the final product as the fig was yellowish like perhaps it was forced ripe too early by the abundant rain maybe. The Celeste tasted rich and full like a fig should taste.

Thanks for the pics, this sort of confirms that the breba figs I picked last week were indeed Celeste

Gene, they look delicious. I've got a small Imp. Celeste from JR, but no figs yet. Is yours from JR also? Hopefully it's just too much rain at the wrong time and will improve with age. Thanks for posting.

Vivian, like you, I'm constantly fighting with the birds for figs. Even with the bird netting, they land on it an eat every one they can reach. I quit feeding them after last year, thinking I was attracting them to my yard, but it hasn't helped(they remember). It'll be a cold day in _ _ _ _ before I buy food for them again, LOL!

Yeah Tim, looking at the Improved Celeste it didn't look right. It looked more like a sickly fig than a ripe one. I have more on that tree, so time may tell.

Now that is what I'm talking about, that skin cracking is a good sign of ripeness and boy those sure do look good. Licking the screen for now but hopefully not long till some start to ripen here.
Thanks for posting
Sal

As i posted same in other thread it hold true here.

Its nice to see pictures of beautiful plants and now some ripe figs in Florida and  Louisiana from members ( thanks for the tease !) Keep em coming please.
Than later in season its my turn shoot i can wait though because then cold will be right around corner.

Martin and others, I wished I had a pail full to tease you with. A medium size Celeste tree will give us 1 to 2 gallons a day of figs easily down here. I'm looking forward to seeing some of yours. I have quite a few varieties started and looking for early season figs, middle season figs and late season figs. That way I can have figs from Spring to Fall.

Congrats! Those figs look delicous!
