Figs Trying To Ripen

Daytime temps are still in the 80's here, with night time lows in the upper 40's.   These are from my local unknown (which I have named Nick's Havasu Purple, in honor of the owner of the tree who gave me cuttings).  When temps are high, this tree puts out some pretty tasty figs. Big ones.  Not overly sweet, but with lots of figgy flavor.

Lows will be in the high 30's by the end of the week, with a 33 degrees predicted Nov 4.  Hope they make it.....

I believe they will make it though the sweetness may not be the same as ripening in warm weather. I was in the same situation with plants brought closer to the living room wondow for more warmth but when they were almost ready, the squirrel came all the way near the front window and took care of them.

Dave,

That looks and sounds like a really nice tree.  I hope you keep harvesting those figs.

Down here it is also cooling down.  Figs are still ripening on some of the trees, but at a much slower pace than over the summer.

Same here, Joe.  My trees were all planted in-ground in April (or later) this year.  So they were all late with their figs.   Now that they are starting to ripen a bunch of them....the season is almost over.

My squirrels have mysteriously dissappeared.   I bought a havaheart trap to catch them two months ago, but they just laughed at it.  But about three weeks ago...suddenly they are gone.   so my figs are safe (I think).
