Hi everyone!

This Saturday, I'm planning to perform a massive trim on one of the ole Filacciano fig trees. The tree is way too large and the figs at the top are completely inaccessible; they ripen, spoil, and fall on people's heads lol. I think at this point, it's time for a much needed prune.

IMG_5928-1.jpg

As I discussed in a previous post which you can find by clicking here, this is a variety from the Lazio region of Italy that my grandparents brought over from Italy in the 70s. It's a San Pedro variety, produces big beefy brebas (like DK), and tastes sweet with honey and strawberry overtones.

I will offer 4 cuttings of Filacciano for $10 & free shipping (via PayPal - "Goods and Services"). Please email me at narelli38@gmail.com if you are interested.

Please, do not pay without talking to me through e-mail first.

I'd really like to trade, but I just don't have any room or time to add anything else right now. Hopefully in the future I will be able to exchange varieties with all the kind, generous fig-lovers on this forum. Thanks everyone for all the information, experience and insight you've offered about growing figs.

Thanks guys and gals! Best of luck this year!

Hey guys and gals. I was notified by someone in the North East that it will be very cold this week.
So it looks like I will postpone the shipments only to the NE for a few days. Y'all can thank Mother Nature for that one.
Thank you for your interest! The cuttings have been cut just a few hours ago and are ready for packing.

Hey Jimmy I don't see you email in my inbox. Try to email it again please. Thanks.

Might this survive in Zone 5b??
I'm looking for fruit trees that will survive our short growing season and potentially cold winters.

I think unprotected zone 5 is a stretch for any variety of fig. But there's no harm in trying. I think grapes, apples, pears, persimmons and cherries might be able to grow in zone 5.

Hi Donpaid,
Non non non, most persimmons can't make it in Zone5 .
My neighbor ( I'm in Zone7) had one, and it died in the winter. It sprouted from the roots ... under the graft point ... The tree is lost .
So in Zone7, it is already hard to keep a persimmon (kaki) alive .
... ... Probably the reason why, I'm looking into buying one ! That will be my new challenge !

There are many varieties of figs that can grow and ripen in-ground in Zone 5b with some winter protection.

Filiciano, a San Pedro type known for breba production would need a lot of protection (more than most) or to grow in container and bring indoors for the winter for the breba buds to survice the winter  .

Dan,

Have you sent the cuttings yet? If so, I haven't received them yet.

It may be that they are delayed with all the snow last week.

Hey Kevin,

Haha ya beat me to it! I had some work to do and I planned it out so that I would update everyone about their shipments tonight.

I have not mailed the packages yet. They are still in the fridge cuddling with some other vegetables. I heard about the cold and I didn't want them to get stuck in the cold and perish in the mail. I have already sent some cuttings to the unaffected areas. The remaining cuttings will be mailed out tomorrow morning.

To everyone,

I've seen in the forecast that there will still be some cold coming this week. If anyone would like me to hold their cuttings for another week, let me know and I will do that. If not, they will be shipped tomorrow morning.

Thanks guys and gals!

Update: As of 10AM pacific standard time, all the packages have been shipped. They should arrive some time mid to late week.

Thank you for your interest! I'm so honored to share cuttings with you all. If anyone has any trouble rooting them, email me and a new set will be on their way to you, free of charge.

Take care!

You're very welcome! The extras were a last minute addition. I apologize to everyone who didn't get the extras. I have a 15 year old Saratoga that needed just a little touch up pruning after I had mailed most of the packages. I thought I didn't have to trim it but then I noticed it was encroaching on my neighbors property.

Wow Dan, if only my neighbor to my west had the same sort of attitude you have!  I'm constantly having to trim back his trash trees.
