Finally Found Pinebark fines!

I was at "Lowes" the other day getting all my soil material for potting up around 65  1 Gallon containers. Well, I got top soil,Lime,Compost, composted manure and I happened to see some sacks of "Evergreen Soil Conditioner" So, I bought a couple of bags. I was mixing up my soil  and grabbed a bag of the soil conditioner to see what it looked like "Holy $__T this was what I been looking for 3 years.

I went back to Lowes and bought 15 bags, some people might not be able to buy these, But if you can grab them! When you open up the bag, I bet it''s exactly what you have been looking for in your soil mixture! Hope this helps y'all!! : )  Call your local Lowes first to see if they have it!

Hey Frank,

I have been using pine bark fines from lowes for years and it works great. It is acidic so I add lime.I think I heard about pine fines from Cajun Dan.It's cheap too!!

Do you just mix them in with the potting soil 1:1?

I hear people here all the time saying Pine Bark  Fines were hard to find? What product do you buy at Lowes that is pine fines?

Some "soil conditioner" has pbf and lime. Check the label. I mix mine 1:1 with Pro Mix HP. Works Great!
I got my PBF from Agway but I special ordered it.

Hey Frank!  Today I potted up all the cuttings you sent me, I used topsoil, compost and sand mixed up.  I dipped the cuttings in clonex and wiped off excess.  I am curious now about the soil conditioner you mentioned because I have that brand in my area.  Are you mixing the pine fines with your soil or are  you just going to be using the pine fines?

What I do is use, 1 Bag Of soil conditioner, 1 Bag of Mushroom Compost, 1 Bag of Top Soil, 1 coffee can of pulverized Lime, 1 Bag of composted Manure, 3- 5 Gallon buckets of pearlite, and some Peat Moss. Most of this can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot..Get it now, as the season goes by, they start running out of products! Hope this helps.

It definitely helps!  Thanks for the info.

I posted about this a year ago.  I just used about 3:1 soil conditioner from Lowes to compost.  I sprinkled in some time release fert that I found on the clearance ailse as well.  Drainage was great as well as water retention.  No lime or other amendments.  All plants grew well and even kicked out a few ripe figs  by the end of the summer.

I find that all soil sold to the public is ground pine bark no matter what brand. Unless i buy peat. Or if i buy the really cheap stuff i get sandy black mud. 10 years ago you could get a decent products. Mg had really nice product if you pot there good potting soil. Today it sucks. I get my own soil from the top layer of the woods ( thats forest for you northern folk ) .; )
Mix that with alittle clay and peat. Thats my rant about soil thats being, sold these days. Richie from louisiana

Here's a real newbie question for you Frank, what size are the bags? Great helpful info now that I actually have some Fig sticks becoming trees and needing larger housing!

The Lowes bags are 2 cubit feet i believe and only costs about $3.50 here locally (Bham)
