Finally getting Kadota figs !

I'm excited that this year I'm getting a good amount of figs . Only got one or 2 last year .

Is the bagged ripening fig a breba? My Peters Honey main crop look to be about the same size as your Kadota, so I'm just curious if your starting to ripen main crop.

Calvin , yes the bagged is a breba . Bagged so that the ants stay out of it !

Armando they look delicious ! Nice find .

I ate few kadotas this week and they are great. The flavour is not so deep figgy one but id eat one in a hearbea6.
I made so many cuttings ....they are great
One guy saw me eating them and said leave some on the tree they are prety. I told him its either us or the birds and he loughed.
Probably he Wanted that tree for himself....
Btw after the kadota i ate some sbayi and they taste as sweet but with a deeper figgy taste i think.
Ill post pictures next time ill be there

Eli that's great . I've not heard of sbayi . I would love to see pictures of that one.

Oh and the one breba that I had bagged fell off the tree even tho I had it loosely tied to a branch and it was not nearly as rip as it should be ! Critters??

I dont like sharing with nature too.
I ate one or two kadota after a bird scratched the fruit.

Eqch tree had 50 percent of ripe figs eaten by birds.
If they attack my pots ill be agressive though...

Here's a picture of the saved breba. I was surprised that it was sweet not really figgy tasting though . Would have been great if it had ripened a few more days.

That's way too much sharing Eli !!   50%  ugh !

Good for you that your going to get the figs.
For ants tanglefoot works well for single trunk trees, multiple trunks trees would be more difficult as one has to apply to each trunk.

Martin , last year I used aluminum foil around each branch and coated it with vaseline and that worked really well for me. I'll do that again to some of my trees/trunks. You're right more difficult with multiple trunks !

Patee hi
the ratio will get better as the tree gets older and produce more figs the birds dont have the capacity to eat.

i wonder if nature has a memory in this issue?-if the birds remember that they couldnt eat last years fruit because of covering etc (tinsel) will they remember that they couldnt eat the fruit?

Pattee,  do you know is that the white kadota.  I have 2 of those I hope to get a couple of figs from this yr.

Hi Goss , this is a Monrovia grown Kadota . It is a white fig .  Last year I only had a couple main crop and no breba. This is the first breba for me. I was surprised to see a purplish rim around the pulp, as the main crop last year did not have the purple halo! I'll be interested in seeing if they do this year.

Good luck with yours and post pictures !

Pattee that is a very good looking fig.  I wish I could do pictures but I am an old construction worker and can barely do this much.  I do have intelligent children and grand children maybe someday I will be able to corral one of them long enough to teach me how to do more.  Good news is I did get my wife a digital or electronic or whatever you call it camera for christmas last year.  So just need to learn to use camera and how to put on computer.  so there is hope yet.

Blessings
goss
