Finally tasting ripe Rei breba and a side of Desert King fig with video

I resisted picking the breba fig and it's a good thing I did.  It needed a couple of more days.  Today it was dripping fig nectar from its eye.

Thanks, It was a totally unexpected fig.  Now all I have to do is hopefully get this variety definitively identified.  Maybe Black Rei that is listed on Adriano's website?

Thank you for the video!  It looks delicious!

Of course now I am totally jealous!

Nice video, thanks.  Just an FYI, I lived in Brazil for a couple of years.  You would pronounce Rei like "hay".  It means "king".  In Portugal, I believe they roll any "r's" at the beginning of a word instead of using the "h" sound.
Take care,
Matt

Wow!!! That is a beautiful fig, Rei!  Where did you buy it? I should add it to my wish list now :)

Are there brebas growing on the Rei today?

So then you are saying good things do come in small packages too.  Loved the video.

beautiful pictures. thanks for the pix.

Tom,

That was a wicked good video!  I wanted a fig so bad about halfway through.  I'm going to have to add Rei to my wish list now.  Also, it was good to hear a New England accent for a change, makes me miss home.  Good luck with your trees!

A very close variety (if not the same fig).
It produces brebas as well as a main crop, which DO NOT require the presence of wasps to ripe  (*)
These are pics from last year, of potted plants, now on ground.

(*) To differentiate from San Pedro which require pollination on the main crop  we call these cultivars : 'CACHOPEIROS'
