Peg, we are all safe, as are our friends and neighbors. I think there is only one fatality, so far, but the property damage is going to unbelievable. We live in the center of San Diego City, so we are fairly buffered from the fires which are in the more vegetated areas. There are heavily vegetated canyons interspersed with the housing developments, which make them desirable for living in, but also make for disasters like this. I lost a few banana trees to the winds today, but otherwise, all is well. WE are supposed to ave 24-36 more hours of wind, and it is not at all over until the wind dies down. The wind driven flames and travel 30-40 miles per hours at times, and the embers skip miles ahead, blown by the wind, and start new fires in advance of the main fire line. I have watched these fires, here and in LA, for 50 years, but this is so far beyond anything that I have ever seen before: totally unprecedented, even with the worst ever fire of 4 years ago.
