We are looking at young plants producing fruits in different ,climates.
I had Marseilles black vs,producing fruits ,one year with very long neck and another year with short neck.
I have as we speak,Longue D'Aout, producing very long Banana type fruits this year,as main crop, and last year I have it documented, it was producing fruits with short neck, as main crop, and much more thicker than the fruits it will make this year.
I also had it 4 years ago, making very long fruits, and I have a pix to show that.
There was a long discussion on the forum about, Marseilles black vs , differences, as ,about long neck verses short neck, and it was the same fig.
Right now I have no time to look for the pixies, to show proof but I will come back later and add pictures, when I find them.
Here are pixies:
Marseilles black vs:
Longue D'Aout:
They are all Main crop,in different years starting from when trees were young ,2 years old +
Longue D'Aout ,green fruits taken today, and i can see they will be very long, with a long neck this year.
Fig tree is very variable year after year, even color ,exterior interior can be different, from one year to another.!
One fact does not change:Best cultivars, produce at least good tasting fruits in most climates.
Mediocre cultivars produce good fruits in ideal climates ,like Southern France ,and poor tasting, fruits in difficult ,or cool climates.
Edit note:
Forgotten to mention, that even the leaves shapes changes from one year to another, and that is why is hard to always be right when ID fig trees.
Happy Gardening!
