First Brebas of the 2010 Season

Can't remember what variety I saw these on, but it still has it's 209 leaves, and is now forming brebas at the base of 209 growth. It has been a strange year.

Jon, my LSU Gold (not), the one I'm about to name "golden crazy" because it's still growing like crazy and putting on new leaves and figlets, has also put on what looks to be breba on the lower end of some of the branches. This tree has gone through a least 3 growth stages this year All of the leaves have fallen from the earlier growth areas and only the latest growth stage has leaves. The figs I'm thinking might be breba are on the first growth stage of this year. I haven't a clue.

the BT on the north side of my house that gets very little sun is also still steadily putting on fruit.  some of the 2009 leaves just started to yellow a bit, but almost all are still on the tree (meanwhile, the oakleaf hydrangeas all around it are dark maroon).

i will take some pictures before end of the weekend to show it.

Gene,
I had may trees start flushng around 9/1 this season, with new leaves and new fruit. Most won't ripen, but some have. Never seen anything like it, and then there are these 2010 brebas, already, Sometimes you just have to scratch your head, and sing a chorus of Que, sera, sera.

Jon I hoping you're thinking of the Doris Day version from the movie "The Man Who New Too Much" with Jimmy Stewart. A great Hitchcock thriller from the 50's.

I was hoping that this tree  would show it's true colors next spring since it will be 4 years old. Now with the breba perhaps growing now. I don't know what will happen. It's like a Hitchcock mystery of it's own.

The third spurt of growth, the green sprout at the top.

Figs on last years growth

Figs without a chance in hell

Gene Never say Never you might get a nice surprise if weather cooperates.
Best of luck
Sal

As promised above ....

It's interesting that you guys are talking about this too. We've had such a warm November here in SW KY also. I spotted a local fig tree just a couple of days ago that is still fully leaved (leafed?) out and has seveal black figs on it.
I'm plannng to go by there tommorrow with my camera. If I get some decent shots of the tree, leaves, & fruit maybe somebody can throw out a few ID guesses. Maybe we can get her in the ballpark of what it might be.

I know it's only a matter of tme for us and we'll be in the 20's & teens overnight. When I lived in S FL I thought it was funny to see the Haitian folks bundled up when it got into the mid 30's overnight. They just had no idea....

might want to pull a fruit or two, along with a couple of leaves, cut it open so we can see insides.

Jason
For photos and a little info on the above mentioned tree see the thread I started titled "Any Takers?".
