First Day of Spring my ..........

I should have known better to get my hopes up.  At least I can sit in my greenhouse for a minute and lower my blood pressure and rest my aching back.

Thanks for reminding me of why we moved to North Florida in 1995. I think that I would literally fall into a fetal position and wither away into nothing if I had to go back up there and wait for the long long winter to come to an end, year after year.
Here, you can garden year round and each month of has some type of fruit ripening and ready for picking and eating. Currently,  loquats and mulberries are the fruites du jour. I am not rubbing it in but expressing joy at how lucky we are to be here. Dare I call this paradise like our fearless leader calls his beloved San Diego. Nah, that would be rubbing it in.

I feel your pain Tom.
Thanks for the wonderful video.

Well, don't feel rained on. Spring is knocking on the door in Charlotte. Over the past 2 weeks we've had several 70+ degree temperatures. The azaleas, tuplip trees, and bradford pear trees are all in bloom down here. BUT last night it was 27 degrees! Yesterday and today, its 68+ degrees but breezy and cool. According to the weather channel, it's going to get colder!

Last year this time we were in the late 80s! Not this year!! I still think its going to be a great year for figs. All of my trees inside of my GH are just starting to leaf out. I just watered all those inside the GH. I got 2 Pom trees inside the GH. I thought they were dead but now they are leafing out! I am so happy! Those in my garage leafed out weeks ago. SOme trees have 3 feet of growth on already! In these pictures are: A LOT OF FIG TREES, 1 meyer lemon, 3 persimmon trees, 1 Pakistan Mulberry, 1 Illinois EVB mulberry, and 6 hardy kiwi vines.

Happy Spring everyone!

Wow Dennis!!

Dennis, do you have any fig trees! Lol I'm assuming you don't park in the garage.

What's all the white stuff on the ground? Marshmallow fluff?

Tony, no I don't park in the garage till the figs come out.

Hi Noss, the SWC are 16 inches in diameter. That's the largest size they make. I get them at Wal-mart. They use to be 9 bucks each but now they're 11. I like them a lot. I try to set them up high, about 3 inches above the top and top them with pine bark. Squirrels don't bother them if they have a mound of soil on top. The big ones hold about a half a gallon of water. Fig trees extremely well in them. Watering them with a drip emitter is awesome. If the weather is 90+, I water twice a day.

How many gallons of soil will a 16" SWC hold?
