first fig ever. VdB Paradise Nursery.

here is the first fig off my VdB paradise nusery. i should have waited day or two more, but i just couldn't. have about 4 more that's about to ripen, and few others turning color.

oh.. about the taste and all that.. the fig went down too fast for me to taste much of anything. tho, it was mildly sweet. maybe day or two will improve the taste. it's been raining on and off for last two days, that might not helped with taste. but it was whole lot better than BT i got from the supermarket :)

nice congrats that is my favorite tasting fig in my collection!

Hi Pete .
Yes you need to lock the door and not go to tree next time.  ; )
If you let get like this picture they have stronger taste usually.
But i understand where your coming from and even sometimes i enjoy a more firmer fig.

One day when in mood try peeling fig then eat fig and wait short time then eat the skin .
Its fun and good.

i had my second fig yesterday. my wife and the kids tried it too. it had more flavor to it, but rather mushy. i sort of liked it little firmer. firm.. or taste.. hmm..

my wife wasn't impressed. she grew up with fig tree in her yard and she said VdB wasn't sweet or tasty as one she remembers. then again, old memories are always better, and this is from first crop ever from the tree. hope the taste improves with years to come.

Today, the figs were super sweet. Almost too sweet. I'm going to need extra insulin tonight. LOL.

You know, I had a couple VdB and gave them away thinking they were the same as Negronne (I had five Negronne and still have three left)....

After the fact, I'm understanding that they probably are different trees.  I have three VdB cuttings rooting right now, but they're a little skinny so I'm hoping it works out.  I'm eager for them to grow up and put out like this.

It's really sad that I don't have this fig in my collection!  Seems like such a common one.

jason,

sent you a PM.

@Bullet08.  I have a VdB (NOT from Raintree (; ) that shows FMV deformed leaves.  Does your Raintree VdB show any signs of FMV ?.

Thanks
Dave.

dave,

my VdB is actually from east coast figs. per gene h. who sent me the trees, it was from paradise nursery. last i heard, gene is no longer doing fig thing.

it does show FMV. some of the leaves are misshaped, and some of them have weird patterns on the leaves. but it's not causing any issues with fruiting.

Belated Thanks Pete.
Sounds like my VdB. The two figs I got this first year were very good. I would just like to find one with better looking leaves.
I saw one pictured over on GW but I never found where it was from.
Dave.
