First Figlet EVER

I started my 'collection' about 5 months ago. Mostly cuttings but I did purchase a few more mature trees in hopes of home grown figs in July/August. Well, I'm in the hunt and it is a 1st figlet for me and it is on a Hunt. There appear to be a few more on the way. And believe it or not, I am trying to air layer this tree. Uh oh.

Hats off to J.D.

Congrats.

This is just one of many many figs you will have now and every season. I know it's a good feeling.

Keep us posted.

Congrats J.D its a wonderfull feeling to see those little figlets grow.

Why airlayering?

Congrats on the fig!  I had two on my Hollier, but had some spider mites hitchhike their way into my place on another (purchased) fig tree, and after spraying the tree with neem, managed to have both shrivel up and fall of.  I don't know if them falling off was a byproduct of the damage done by the spider mites or the neem treatment.  Meh.

Jason,

This is why I stick to my trusted: Safer Brand Insecticidal soap.
It is non toxic and works.

I have been using End-All II but its pretty strong and after one application you can surely tell all the spots those darn things were biting on but usually dont have to use it a second time. If you have allot of plants in a small space like I do best bet is spray all of them or else they will just bounce from plant to plant.

Nelson, that was my experience.  It was clear which plant they were on first - that is the one which showed first signs of damage.  They didn't hop until I doused that plant.  Then, they showed up on the two closest to it.  So I drenched those.  Then they showed up on the one closest to those two, and reappeared on the source plant.  I keep all of my plants separate places in the house.  At one point, I guess I put my freshly rooted cuttings too close to the others, because I found traces of them on a couple of VdB cuttings I'd just rooted, so those got sprayed, and I took everything out to spray it.

The stuff I have been using - Bon Neem - seems to work very well.  It normally doesn't interrupt terminal buds or wilt leaves.  But something I have noticed is that after application, within a week, there are little rust spots everywhere those little bastards have been munching.  It's a sad thing to see!

From now on, I will be spraying all incoming potted plants if they will stay in the house.  I'm almost ready to set off a bug bomb at this point!  At least I haven't lost any plants to them .... yet (knock on wood)

Rafed, I saw that brand at the store the other day and I was moments away from buying it.  I bought a different neem-based product to try out instead.  I believe I looked at the Safer brand, and it was 80%+ of some kind of petroleum product for the active ingredient.  The thought of it sort of scared me.

Thanks folks. My wife and children were happy as well. My wife keeps wondering what "we" are going to do with all of those fig trees.

Jason, air layer...for practice and reclamation. I thought I might lose the plant and an air layering would provide a quick resolution to the problem.

ADVICE ON FIGLETS ON YOUNG TRESS:
Better to a) Remove them and allow for growth and development or b) Let nature do what she does. or c) Something else.

Thanks,
JD

Just realized this may not be from cuttings.  Disregard the comment that was here previously :)
