First Figs of 2013 in Maryland

Hello from Maryland 20732

Thought I would share with you all the first figs to ripen here in Maryland.

Mind you these are in pots and I overwinter them in a greenhouse so they had a good headstart on the season.

The VERY large one (See comparison to dollar bill) was sold to me 2 years ago as a Black Jack.

The smaller ones are Negrone.

Either way, the large one was delicious and VERY sweet for an early fig.

I have one fig tree (Dark Italian Type) 3 stalks about 5 feet high with over 100 small figs on it......can't wait for them all to ripen.

P.S. Found the Fig Vinegar at Safeway and it is great on salads and cooked greens (Collards/Kale)

Nice figs Ironman ! I have a Black Jack also and enjoyed them last year . This year it was very slow starting for me . Weather was not cooperating here and it was one of the last to finally green up.

Man those are some big figs!!

Congrats Ironman.

Black Jack is usually a hollowed out fig.  With no void and sweetness, that was probably a pretty premium fig you got there!
