First Frost of 2012 around PNW

We had our first frost of the year and almost all the leaf dropped.  I did not get a chance to move some newly rooted cuttings, so I am kind of worry if they will survive.  Just moved those into garage tonight.  How is everyone's fig tree?

We had few frost on grass and windshield. Mine are all moved in a week ago. Been checking water every few days so I don't kill them this winter. Just have to figure out what I'm gonna do with cuttings I'm rooting now in the bags.

Minus 2 degree with the artic outflow in the mornings & nights. Have not winterize my trees yet. Most have lost their leaves by last week. My trees should be OK. Things are going to warm out by tomorrow as rain is expected.

Pete, you will probably need to have a lot of cuttings growing in the cups indoor. :)

Paully22, I am so happy the rain comes.  Last two nights was too cold that I was not ready for it.

I moved mine inside a couple weeks ago although I would have been fine to leave them out ( i was out of town)  Some people in town have left their out, most have brought them in this week, we also had a -2 C this week.  A couple people have covered their in ground trees already, most have not and I am planning to in 2-3 weeks still when the weather has stabilized and is consistantly cold.  Some people give the advice that one frost of below 40 F for smaller trees and 2 frost of below 40 for larger trees before bringing them in, it worked for me last year.

Scott,
In most cases a "frost" will kill the leaves, but not the tree.  On the other hand, a "hard freeze" will, more than likely, kill the tree.  But the good news is that fig trees are a lot more resilient than most people think.  I had one tree freeze, and it killed everything right down to the ground, but next season when things began to warm up, new shoots started coming up through the ground and by Summers end the tree had flushed out really nice.(reduced in size, but alive).  The more I work with these fig trees the more they amaze me.
                                       Good Luck With Your Tree,
