First LSU Gold

I was very excited to pick my first LSU Gold. This is from a small tree acquired in July about 12 inches tall It is now 52 inches tall
Weight 79 gr
Taste sweet but a little watery and not many seeds. Expecting it to be sweeter might have picked to soon so will wait longer on next ones. We just got a cold front move in last night 50 this morning so I hope these ripen b-4 I leave next week. Can't complain this time of year. I'm hoping taste will improve next year when they ripen at proper time hopefully
Should I pull off all smaler figs to help it for next Year?

Congrats. Nice healthy plants. Likely in your zone there is no need to pull off  the smaller figs. Perhaps pinching will help them to branch & give you more figs plus a manageable tree.

Thanks Paully for the advise. I plan on potting up in Feb. I don't want to cut or pinch at this time as I'm hoping trees will go dormant and don't want to stimulate any new growth. I will pinch, trim and shape when I pot up. Down to 45 this morning but will be 72 today and nights will warm back to low 60's. This is the weather we look forward to after those hot humid days and nights. With that said I'll be in the Caribbean next week hoping for warm weather  LOL

Sal, thats a nice looking tree you have. I bought one a couple of weeks ago about the same size but with a single trunk for 20 bucks. It was just about dormant with just a few leaves left and they were turning yellow. The leaves have mostly fallen. We got hit with a real heavy frost Thursday morning. Man was it thick. I got out to go to work at 5 AM and saw it forming so I went and watered all my trees real good hoping that the water bath would warm them a little and slow the formation of frost. This was their first taste of cold weather and I'm hoping it wasn't to hard on them since they are not dormant yet.

The pictures of your figs has my mouth watering. I'm lookin forward to having a few of my own next year.

Last Thanksgiving we were in St Thomas and it was great. Too bad we had to return. Enjoy the Caribbean, its a beautiful place.

Thanks Gene I'm also looking forward to next years crop. I'm still picking 1 or 2 figs here and there which is a treat and a tease at the same time. My unk blks are loaded for their size so I'm hoping to be picking into Jan if weather cooperates. Also waiting on Conadria, VDB, Improved Celeste which have figs on them which seems like for ever. Will post when and Big IF they ripen.
The trip was booked last minute We just couldn't pass on the deal and even got a nice up grade to an out side balcony. We will stop in St. Thomas which we have been before also San Juan PR and Grand Turks  Caicos Islands which will be a first. We enjoy cruising Did a 16 day Panama Canal crossing 2004 while my home was being hit with the second hurricane in 3wks Eye came in 7 Miles from where I live not fun and glad we were gone and 17 day Trans Atlantic from Fl to Savona Italy last year with many Caribbean cruises in the past. South Fl I think is the cruise capital of the world and very convenient for us. Vacationstogo.com is a great site for deals. If you do use them ask for Wendy she is great. I was tempted to book another one for Jan as they had specials running yesterday. Oh well still might do it.

Sal, passed through PSL a dozen times in the last 3 days while hanging out with my MIL for turkey day (with my wife of course)

Thought about you, kept an eye out for fig trees around from Stuart to Ft. Pierce but no sightings. Have a friend in Jensen wrth a 5yr BT but nothing else...

Look me up next time

That's a nice looking fig & tree Sal. I was surprised that the eye was so large. It's highly recommended for my zone. I still have this one on my wish list.

Will do.  Been tied up all day today, and fly back to Atlanta tomorrow just after noon.  Got your PM, will try to  give a shout when in town a few months from now.
