First Night Out for Big Babies in Maryland

Good Easter Morning All

My big babies have been waiting for the snow, cold and frost to disappear before they went off to their outdoor boot camp. Mother Nature sided with them, UNTIL yesterday. I finally moved most of my trees outside for some warmth, gentle breezes, and rays from the sun. Luckily, it was nice and warm, a bit overcast, so no wilting. :-)

Here's a pix of Ghosh and Longue d'Aout early this morning as they start a new day in the real world.

And as daylight breaks, looks like " the babies " survived (with a night light)

Maybe I'm the "big baby " here? Supposed to go down to at least 39F, maybe lower. I have too many really nice plants, with nice growth, coupled with lots of figs to risk. Brought all 30 pots back inside. Luckily the trip from deck to indoor sunroom is only 20 feet AND I had a helper. Supposed to be in the mid-40's rest of the week. Well, they enjoyed the sun for two full days, no casualties.

Hey Mark, you really do baby them!  I have had mine out for a couple weeks with a couple shuffles for the smaller ones and one shuffle for the larger ones.  They seem to be doing well but would love some warmer weather.  I'll start hardening off the tomatoes later this week.

Not to worry, Mark - Spring is soon to be upon you big time! I am very impressed with your collection, btw.

Go Terps!  Joe

Steve, we had a heavy frost last Monday and Tuesday I think, enough to warrant a windshield scraping, and frozen cherry blossoms. Last year, under similar conditions, I put out my Black Mission one night in late Spring only to find the leaves crisp by noon the next day. I think it's a tad bit colder here?

@Joe, thanks. I need to update my signature block, I think I have a few that aren't listed.

Well, in the end I'm glad I brought the big babies in last night. I'm seeing frost outside on our sunroom's roof and my solar panels. Definitely worth 15 mins yesterday to shuffle them all bak in.
