First Ripe Black Madeira Fig of 2012

This is a main crop fig that ripened on my young Black Madeira tree.  The tree is planted in the ground.  When I went out to look at the tree this morning the fig had fallen to the ground.  It was on the dry side.  I had the same issue with VDB last year but this year the VDB tree is larger and more established and the figs are plump and juicy.  I'm hoping the same thing happens with Black Madeira as the tree matures.  I will increase the watering on this tree from every 3rd day to every 2nd to see if it helps.

This fig was VERY SWEET.  It had a rich complex flavor.  I would definitely need to eat a few more to describe it better.  Luckily some more are turning color.

I have same plant but mine looked much different than yours,  it appears yours ripened too fast and possibly with lack of moisture fell.

Here is what mine looked liked last season for comparison and first time it gave any figs.

Wow Martin what a fig you got to ripen there. That looks like the tastiest fig.How did you like your BM?Was it the tastiest fig in your collection? If not which tasted better then your BM thanks Martin.

Similar to FrozenJoe's experience .
FrozenJoe please post more pictures as they permit and how you like them.
Thanks .

I only had 1 then several days later another 1.
So being honest i can not judge it against my other figs at this point .

Last year most memorable was my Ronde followed by Violet Bordeaux.
That may change as i have other promising type's but have yet to taste thus i make room for them by discarding others.

Joe, it's a shame you've got all that research ahead of you--I hope your taste buds hold up under the strain. If it ends up being too much and you decide you need help, remember I'm less than two hours away....

Martin, that fig looks awesome! Hopefully one day my tree can produce figs like that.

Ken, you're right.  Long hours of hard grueling research eating figs... how will I be able to handle it?
