First Ripe Sal's EL

I'm really impressed with this fig.  It was started from a cutting I got from Just Figs, early Fall of 2014.  Started (surviving a mold attack) and overwintered indoors under light.  Survived fungus gnats and spider mites.

Now the tree is only about 16 inches tall after nearly getting its roots baked in a black pot until it got buried under wood chips and shot up some new growth like the rest.  It put on three very small figs.

This is the first ripe one.  It popped off with just a very slight push to one side.

Flavor is intense berry like, similar to HC with something extra I can't quite say what.   Very juicy delicious and I wish it was big as a watermellon so I could stuff my whole mouth full of it over and over again.

Looks good

Great Job Charlie! I too love this Fig, I have ate several so far this Summer! Good Luck!

Looks DELICIOUS!!! yum yum yum Thanks for sharing!

Looks good! Congrats on the successful fig tree propagation (sounds like it was a long road), but I bet the fig tasted better for all that hard work.

Thanks for the comments.  Yes Becky, pretty much all my trees have survived a high degree of newbness over the last fifteen months.  Every fig has been special this year, being my first year to have multiple figs but this one was somewhat above the rest far as flavor and it really surprised me.

Looks great, the sals was my best producer this year and gave some amazing tasting figs.

Nice. My 2nd year HC and MvsB fruited this year, but not my Sal's (due to neglect on my part). May just be age, but the HCs were jammy and a bit tart, whereas the MvsB was jammy but had a second flavor: creamy? My thought was "this tastes like strawberries and creamcheese on a bagel."  Hoping I get the Sal's up-potted for next year so I can compare.   I'm still wondering if all of these similar varieties will be the same or different when they mature. Thanks for posting.

Nice! Does Ediblelandscaping still sell Sals?
