First Ripe VDB of 2015

I wouldn't have known these were ripe unless DH installed a bench up on a place on our property that we call "Rocky Top." There are 2 figs up there, and as we enjoyed that bench, I noticed some very swollen and black VdB figs.

I picked 5. One I took with me to the doc appt I had this morning. He loved it! He is from the Mediterranean, and he gave it a gentle squeeze to check for ripeness. Then he proceeds to tell me, you know you can multiply that tree. I agreed, and listened to his old world wisdom. He said to cut a piece about 7" long and put it in water for a week. Then stick it in the ground. It will grow.

I'll try that, of course. THEN he said I may ask you for some pieces of your tree. I told him I have many trees, and I'll bring him figs and cuttings on my next visit.

The old doc told me he loves the yellow figs.  So, I'll be bringing him some LSU gold and maybe Kadota.  I wish Norman's Yellow had figs.  Too much a baby.

Beautiful looking VdBs!

Your making me jealous......those look delicious

WOW! Really nice looking fruit! VdB was one of the 1st varieties I considered after I got hooked a few years back, but in our area anything with an open eye becomes home to the dried fruit beetle after the summer monsoon  season. I'm always jealous when I see pics like yours today!  pops Yuma, AZ zone 10

Awesome looking Figs..

Little does the Dr know how many trees you must have ;)

How do you have ripe figs already while mine have so far to go? I must not get enough hours of sunlight in my little valley.

Nice! Way ahead of my second seasn TC plant. Something to look forward to seeing!

Excuse me, did I just drool?

Just so you know these fig trees are 5 or 6 years old.  Maybe that's why they are so early in ripening.  It has been a warm winter / spring also.
