First Strawberry Verte - Eaten Before Pics!

My apologies!  I normally would have taken some pics of my first Strawberry Verte fig so I could post them, but just couldn't wait!

I have a friend down from NY who's visiting and was hoping to get a ripe fig for him while he was here.  Yesterday, I noticed a lower fig on one of the two Strawberry Vertes I rooted in February had swelled up and was slightly yellower/green than the others.  I gave it a gentle squeeze and thought it might be ripe by today.

I was pretty happy, since I was hoping my friend would get to try a fresh fig while he was here, but the only one of my trees I had been able to harvest up to this point was the Texas Everbearing Brown Turkey, which finished putting out figs before he arrived.

When I checked the Strawberry Verte this morning, the skin had just started to tear in several places, so I figured it was ready, picked it from the tree, and immediately shared it with my friend, who's leaving tomorrow, so it ripened just in time!

It was perfectly ripe and absolutely fantastic!  Much better than I was expecting for the first fig from a tree that's only about 9 months from cutting, and much more flavorful than any of the figs from the Texas Everbearing!

Very tropical/strawberry flavor with somewhat of a "nutty" (for lack of a better description!) after-taste.

I can't wait to taste these when the trees mature and have dozens of fruits.  For now, I do plan on keeping BOTH SV's I started, even though I'm somewhat limited on space. They both appear to be heavy producers and I've been picking numerous immature figs off them for months to try to get them to focus on vertical growth, but finally got tired of picking off all the young 'uns, so I left a few on each tree to mature.  I'm glad I did!

FYI...My Strawberry Verte cuttings came from Jon at Encanto and I highly recommend this one! :)

I hope it looked like this, It was a good tasting fig similar to Panache in flavor, It was lacking sun, So it should get better every year.

It did look very similar, except mine had these white-colored "strands" (are those "petioles"???) that don't seem as visible on your example.  It looked very much like the attached pic, which is actually a UCD Calvert taken as a screen capture from Bass' video but the flesh color was closer to your example.

Why do you put your Name on your Photos and put "Property? Why would you care if someone used your photo? Are you a Professional Photographer?

Frank, some people steal our images to list figs on Ebay........  Oh, I am a professional photographer....but its very sad that there is some low lifes that trick people on Ebay.

Thanks armando, now I understand! : )

Petioles are actually the stalks that attach the leaves to the stems.  But, since the fig fruit is technically an "inside-out" flower, I'm not sure how the parts translate. :)
