First tasting of Smith

I got Smith as a generous gift from a forum member a couple years ago. It is in it's 2nd season and is a strong grower. I picked this a day or two before I wanted to because of the onslaught of ants and wasps. Nevertheless it was very, very good. Now I know what all the fuss is about with this variety. I have heard from Dennis and others that this is a very cold-sensitive variety, unfortunately, and so far doesn't seem as productive as some. Nevertheless, it is not a late fig like a lot of primo greenish figs with red pulp, and the taste is top-notch.

Lucky you, Steve. It looks really good! I have one in ground in it's 3rd year, and I haven't gotten to taste it yet. It won't be long, though. It is loaded with figs, just a little longer.

Gary, do you reliably have the wasp now?  Either way I predict you will like it.  I'm surprised you didn't get fruit last year - it must be one of the those varieties that takes longer to produce fruit when its roots can spread out in the ground.
